Does anyone know of any knives that have NO METAL in them? Other than say a rock knife? I'm just curious. I have no intrest in hijacking airplanes, etc.

Whirlwind,

There are many non-metal knives. Some have ceramic blades, and others are made from various grades of plastics. Generally, for the time being, metal knives continue to offer greater versatility. Many of the plastic knives are desperate (sometimes high priced) pieces of junk, intended for the paranoid. The ceramic knives offer excellent edge holding, but, are hard to resharpen (due to high RC) and fragile.

Excellent knives are also successfully produced in Titanium and Talonite. Both are metals but not steel.

I wouldn't mind owning a obsidian flint knife with a stag horn handle, but that's about it. I like a good, heavy, well made metal knife. I feel ceramic knives are like 'turkey bacon,' and other salt free products. I was one of the six guys that actually paid to see 'Demolition Man' with Stallone. They had computer helmets for touch-free sex. Of course, I also like my V-8 truck...--OKG

I've got one from Wicked Knife Co. --- I can't remember what exactly it is made out of.

I think the Wicked Knife Co. ones are made from G-10. $20 + shipping I think. I don't own one, but I'm going to buy one probably.

Here it is: Click on this NEWT LIVESAY NECK KNIVES and drop down a few lines to Model #701; NRG non-magnetic fiber knife; you will find this hard to beat at only $20.00.

I make them to order. No stock on hand. E-mail me for details.

I know profanity and bad words are considered bad form on the Forums, but I'm gonna go ahead and say it, the censors be darned....

Mad Dog.

The Mad Dog Frequent Flyers are waaaaay overpriced. For what it costs to get one of the FF, even the Pygmy, you could buy several of Newt's NRGs. Same stuff, no hype. MD doesn't use some super-duper, secret stuff that out-performs all the rest. The edge dulls as quickly as anybody else's.

If anyone out there knows of a non-metal knife made from some plastic harder than G-10, please let me know.

A.G. Russell just brought back the venerable "CIA Letter Opener" for $8.00 shipped.

Here is a small sample of my knives. Tey are made to order, your design or mine. These are very basic knives, no spit and polish here, just a knife. These are made from .250" G-10. They come with A Kydex neck sheath only!!! Don't ask for anything special. Take it or leave it.

Thanks for all the replies. I was just curious as to what's out there. Does anyone know of any good metal free folders? (Jeez, maybe airlines metal detectors are pointless.)

Heck, we have the right to bear arms, even if they are able to get by metal detectors!

Thought just popped up. How about using glass fibre? Woven or fibre mats. Would properly compressed woven glass fibre composite be able to cut better than carbon fibre or G-10?

Does anyone have experience with that MP45 material mentioned? Does Jerry still make them?

Whirlwind,

I'm working on a design. I'll keep you posted.

Steelwolf,

I see no point in using material of that nature, in my knives that is, due to the fact that I like to keep my prices fairly reasonable. I would love to use carbon fiber but it is too damn expensive. I tried TuffTex from Sheffield Knifemakers supply and that worked well, but it was limited to 2 color choices. I can get 8-12 knives out of one 12x12x1/4" sheet of $25 G-10. I sell ONE knife and the rest is pure profit. Kydex is cheap also(I make my own sheaths).

I would love to work with the stuff you mentioned, if you can provide the material I can see what I can do in terms of manufacture. I use very little in terms of power equipment, one 10" disc grinder and a drill press. The rest is done by hand.

Comrade,

They cost me about $7-$12 worth of material and about $15 labor.

Steelwolf,
Regarding the Busse Stealth Hawk, you might want to try doing a search over on the Busse forum. I believe I've seen a couple of threads on the subject in the past year.
