Metal free knives

Do Talonite and Stellite knives fit what you are looking for too? They don't rust, but I don't know that they'd pass through a "metal detector", if that's an important criterion.

Remster, I understand about the cost, esp the carbon fibre. If I could just get my hands on some... I know my uni has a composite boat lying somewhere that they had run in a race and had broken something major and so was going to throw it away. I think there might be some carbon fibre I can scavange from there. I didn't think glass fibre was so expensive though, since I see it being used in all manner of boat hulls, sail and surf boards, etc.

But anyways, just wondering if anybody had tried using these materials before, or should I break new ground and try it?

HJK, the jury is still out on the Talonite's ability to be undetected by metal detectors. Common knowledge says it can be detected. Someone tried walking through with a billet of Stellite and didn't even raise a beep. I'm suspect that it will depend on a lot of variables like: type of instrument (eddy current, ferromagnemometer, millimeterwave), sensitivity of instrument, speed of person going through, angle and placement of object, shape, surface area, volume of object.

Does anyone know of any autos out there that could go through a metal detector?

Mind you, where I live, autos are illegal, and I have no need to get anything by a metal detector. I'm just curious as to how safe planes are, and I thought it would be nice to see some 'metal-free' knives.

Thanks,

Whirlwind
