A very useful knife my friend In Sheffield, the old word for a latch is a 'sneck', which leant its name to 'sneck knives', an old type of lock-knife

So useful it's rarely left behind.
Jack I can see where the word 'sneck' may have began... the Farmer and the gate latch both say "sneck" when they close.
