what is the best metal polish for nickel silver bolsters ( not blades) - i know there are lots on the market - i want one that does not scratch or discolor - used to have a cheap rotary tool with buffing wheels , but don't have it anymore - anyone use polish to clean up old discolored bolsters? and if so , what kind is best - just got a few older knives, never used, blades are fine , but bolsters are pretty discolored and have some spots/some kind of crap on them and would like to clean them up. - thanks

Or Mother's Mag wheel polish (from your local car parts store). Seriously. And cheaper than Flitz. Just something to consider.

Blue Magic will give a mirror polish and not scratch. I throw it in a vibratory tumbler with walnut shell to put a mirror polish on blades.

I use rubbing compound designed for car finishes. 2 dollars at wall mart and it works great!

Flitz is all that I use now. I've used Simichrome in the past and it works just as well.

Flitz is my number one choice. Sometimes I use Mother's Mag polish first then finish with Flitz.

I was wondering the same thing. Looks like I'm off to get some Flitz I've heard it mentioned forever but always put off getting some. I sometimes polish bolsters with my fine belt on my worksharp sharpener as well with good success but want to try something different.

Try a micro cloth. These household cleaning cloths work well on bone, wood, stag and other natural materials as well.

looks like most of you said flitz - i have heard of it but never tried it - i'll have to look for it - and try it out - i don't mind paying a little more for something that really works - thanks everyone

Nev- R- Dull

Nev- R - had a problem with it for nickel silver, brass, etc.......

I use a nail polishing block for most of my knife needs.
Most beauty stores have them and mine has lasted roughly a year now.
If they get dirty a little soap and water cleans them up quick.

NevrDull is ok for most uses, but I have used Simichrome in my knife restoration business for over 40 years. There is nothing better.

Flexcut gold. Not only will it mirror polish any metal you use it on, it's the best load for a strop as well!

got the flitz - it worked -but really had to rub hard- it says non abrasive - i guess thats why - but then again i didnt want anything that would scratch- could not find simichome anywhere - got the flitz at ace - also not able to find mothers mag polish that i thought would be easiest to find.
