I know we got lots of Metallica fans here so what do you all think of the new album? Lets hear it.

St. Anger was a bit of a flop and honestly after watching their Some kind of Monster DVD I was slightly turned off Metallica. Lars acts like such a flippin baby...and I'm not so sure James Hetfiled was much better.

Death Magnetic, however has brought me right back. Great album! My all time favourite is still And justice for all....but this new one kicks the living hek out of St Anger/load/re-load.

I've been listening to it all morning. I'm REALLY impressed. They've finally come back to being Metallica.

I'm waiting to jump online and get tickets for the Nov. 18th show in Tulsa.

I've only listened to my copy twice. Not sure about it yet. Need to spend more time with it.

i gotta pick it up. i love old metallica. just put a bunch of great stuff on my mp3. current fave is last caress/green hell. i know it's a cover. it rocks hard.

From what I've heard already,I like it.I loved the old Metallica, from "Kill 'em All" to "And Justice For All" & The "Black" Album.Everything after that was sell out, generic crap IMO.
St.Anger was laughable..I mean c'mon..."I'm madly in anger with you!I'm madly in anger with you!!" & not a single guitar solo on the whole album??!!:barf::thumbdn:

I hope this new album is a sign of them going back to their roots. They're an extremely talented buncha' guys with a huge following. There's no reason for them to "sell out" & make bubble gum metal.
They're already filthy, stinkin' rich!...Sooo play what the fans want to hear.Afterall,we're the ones responsible for their success & wealth.

You're right that they're rich enough to now play whatever they want. But sadly, WE are not the ones responsible for their success and wealth. Just the very earliest part of it. WE were the ones buying Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. WE shrink into insignificance compared to the sheeplike, non-metal-loving drones who bought their watered-down, safe, metal-lite swill like Load, which is primarily bought to show off in their CD collection and pretend that they enjoy "Metal". You won't find a Shadow's Fall CD in there next to it. Sadly, they know which side their bread is buttered on.

Very well said:thumbup: It's Sad but True(no pun intended)...Still though, playing what their REAL fans want would be the RIGHT thing to do.
They look like they're really enjoying themselves when they're playing the older, harder stuff.Soooooo if YOU like it & your FANS like it & it's paying the bills, why cater to the "sheeplike, non-metal-loving drones"?

Death Magnetic is excellent. Here are the Metallica albums in order of relevance:

Ride the Lightning #1
Master of Puppets #2
Kill 'em all, Garage Days #3
... and justice for all / Death Magnetic tied for #4

The rest of the crap - from load, reload, st-anger, black, s&m - have moments, but from Metallica-light.

All this said, we forget that as a band, Metallica would want to innovate, be challenged, push the envelope, and some fans won't let that happen. In any case, the rough ride after '... and justice for all" is rewarded with a Jewel like Death Magnetic.

And to all you METAL HEADS, let's look to stuff like High on Fire, the Sword, the Melvins and folks like that that only do their own thing, do it well, and to hell with the system.

From your lips to God's ears! I'll be the first in line if they do that.

Black album was not metal lite...it just wasn't 1/2 as good as ...and Justice...that is what the faithful were expecting, and it isn't what they got.....Enter Sandman is a legitimate classic....Whiskey in a Jar off of Garage Days was pretty decent, No Leaf Clover off S&M was stellar, METAL power ballad off the hook!

But this is mere crumbs of greatness, not the MEAL of Ride the Lightning.

To quote Tenacious D...."You can't kill the Metal...the Metal will live on....AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!(repeat 2x.......)...Techno tried to defile the Metal.....but Techno was proven wrong!"

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I have listened to this album in its entirety and have noticed that it is just as unremarkable as any other Metallica album. When the band first started, their sound was fairly unique to them, so hearing the first few bars and being able to say 'Hey, that's Metallica' was a benefit to the band. Now they have fallen into the rut of all bands of their style, their productions all sound the same. Sure, they may be different words, but the music, melodies, vocals all sound exactly like they did when I was in junior high...That being said, it is still good for Metallica though it probably won't be a hasty purchase of mine.

well, taste in in the eye of the beholder.

I've listened to it 10 times and it rocks. I've been listening to them since the 80's and I like it WAY better than ride the lightening.

Master is still my favorite, with AJFA a very close second. Black is next and then Death Magnetic.

All I know is that I can listen to it and bang my head. works for me.

I'll check this new album out. IMHO, everything Metallica has put out since AJFA is crap, so I can't wait to hear this and see what I think!

I've listened to it a few times HOPING it was more like the old Metallica but to me its still too soft. It just seems like they've lost the angry and oppressed feel that they used to have. Maybe being millionaires does that to you. Its still not nearly as hard or fast enough to put on my playlist, I think people are just jumping on it because its been a while since Metallica put out an album.

This is the best description ever. Metallica was the #1 pioneer of speed metal #1 of the top 4. (Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer) But the power and drive, I'm afraid that it died with Cliff.

For sure on that man...

For the record, my favorite song is Call of Cthulu.

Just popped it in for the first time an hour ago. Like it quite a bit. Took a bit to get back in the groove, but the second time around, it rocks pretty hard, and I'm quite happy.:D Now, if I didn't have such a screaming tension headache, I'd be enjoying it even more. It's loosening me up a bit though. I can feel a bit of the stress being driven away. Not much will actually help me lose a headache.:p

I may have to pick the album up. I just hate the thought of putting another penny in Lars Ulrich's pocket. JFC, that guy is the biggest douche.

I do loves me some metal. I think I'll crank some up right now. Pig Destroyer, anyone?

EDIT: I just went and started downloading the album off Itunes. I've been debating buying it for several days. Here's hoping it doesn't blow.
