Metallica - Death Magnetic

I grew up on the black album, and liked Master of Puppets, and Justice for All and Ride the Lightning. I'm the schlub buying the best of albums. I listen to the single from their new one every time it gets airtime, but I won't go out and buy the album. I have the Live Sh*t album, and really like that. Listening to it at work today.

LOL, this picture is all over a FARK metallica thread. Priceless!!!

I just downloaded it from I tunes after hearing most of it on XM this morning. Great album!

For sure on that man...

For the record, my favorite song is Call of Cthulu.

I really don't have a favorite song.My fav. Album is without a doubt "Master of Puppets"

"Killem' All" & "Ride the Lightning" are definitely classics. It displayed the raw anger of these young men coming out through their music.

I remember seeing them open for Ozzy back in '85 or '86(think it was MSG).They opened up with "The Four Horsemen" & I was awestruck!
Needless to say Ozzy had his work cut out for him after their set.Ozzy as always at that time had no problem:thumbup:...That concert will be burned in my memory for the rest of my life!;)

I've heard "Death Magnetic" in it's entirety. It's good.Even very good, but can't even be compared to their older stuff IMHO.

I may have to pick the album up. I just hate the thought of putting another penny in Lars Ulrich's pocket. JFC, that guy is the biggest douche.

Although I do agree with you about his personality,he IS one(if not the best) of the best drummers of his time IMO.

I mean I don't like Eddy Vedder as a person either, but I love the way he sings with such passion....the TEN album's still the best Pearl Jam album to date IMO.

Ok ,I've went off-topic enough.I'm done :o

Their first THRASH album since ...And Justice for All. Death Magnetic ROCKS!!

You know, metal has changed a lot since Kill 'em All through ...And Justice. I remember the shock I felt when I first heard "Enter Sandman" as they basically became a hard rock act simply because they didn't win the Grammy with "One". Bob Rock ruined them. Black album is a good album in it's own right, but it's a lot more mainstream than what Metallica started out as.

I think a lot of folks have very high expectations for Metallica because they were what was considered "heavy" before death metal. They aren't, and never have been, death metal. Death Magnetic has all the elements from Master of Puppets and ...And Justice, but this IS the same band that put out Reload :barf: (which I honestly can say I maybe have listened to twice. Reload is a stinker). Look at the Blaze Baley (SP?) led Iron Maiden and the 3 lame Kreator albums between "Coma of Souls" and "Violent Revolution". How about every Anthrax album after "Stomp 422". Metallica isn't the only band who has a few crappy albums under their name - these same aforementioned bands have rediscovered themselves successfully IMO (still waiting, Anthrax!!).

"All Nightmare Long". "The Judas Kiss". "Broken, Beat, & Scarred". "My Apocalypse". "That Was Just Your Life". Even if you can't look past the atrocity that was Unforgiven II (being taken up AGAIN with Unforgiven III, the weakest track on the album IMO), there is very little with this album that an 80s metal fan would have to complain about if Load and Reload had never happened. It's great to have them back!!!!

I am proud to say I am a Metallica fan AGAIN!! \m/

You guys are beginning to convince me. Guess I'll check it out. I haven't bought any Metallica since the black album(actually loved it, but hated everything after).
Shoot, I bought the new Motley Crue CD, so might as well. 'Course I only really like two songs on it....

This one definitely hits hard...the more I listen to this album the more I am impressed. 'All nightmare long' is an incredible track...

this certainly ain't no Load, Re-Load or St Anger...

Metallica aught to run for some sort of elected office. Every album they talk about getting back to their roots and every time it’s a bunch of BS. I have heard parts of songs on the new album that were good but then they would screw it up. Also calling enter sandman a classic, oh man, you need to read the words, when Pat Boone does metallica covers something is seriously wrong. It really highlights how weak the lyrics are.

There are a lot of older bands that have been putting out news stuff that I would rather spend my money on, Celtic Frost, Death Angel, Machine Head and Testament.

Who ever engineered it should be strung-up. From a sound stand-point, it sounds HORRIBLE. Probably one of the worst SOUNDING CD's I've heard in a long time.

I don't care too much for the material, but it's unlistenable, due to the crappy engineering of it.

in what way exactly?

St. Anger was actually worse...I think thats part of why disliked it so much after a while. The sound quality on that disc was so poor.

Not a huge fan of this new album. Some of it isn't bad but for some reason I just keep thinking it is little more than them playing a role they lost interest in long ago.

I was a big fan of Metallica until the release of the black album. Their music wasn't as heavy and I felt like they were selling out. My brother was talked into buying the new album for 5 bucks at a music store and I was surprised. The new album is worth listening to, I think it gives us old school Metallica fans a taste of what Metallica used to be.

The album must be a lot different than the song they are playing on the radio.

I don't know the name but it starts out reeeeeaaaaalllllll sloooooowwwww (for an originator of speed metal). It is painful to listen too, and not in an old grumpy man "that music is too loud" way either, but in a "why does the lead singer think he can sing" type of way. His voice sucks in any sort of slow, soft, ballad type music.

Also, the fact that it takes half a song for them to warm up enough to start thrashing in proper speed metal tempo leads me to believe that they are not exploring new facets of the music but rather they are old and need time to warm up before they can play like they used too.

Once they do work the rheumatism out, it sounds like every other song they jammed on for the last 20 years.

Dano, I read the version of the album you can download for that video game, Guitar PLayer (or whatever it is) sounds WAY better and doesn't suffer from the problems you mentioned.

well i got mine the day it came out and think its great but my favorite album is still Ride the lightning
