Hey All,

I came across a great book on metallurgy that really helped put things into perspective without needing a background in materials science. Unfortunately it was a google preview and when I attempted to find a hardcopy it appears to be out of print, the cheapest copy I've found was over 80$...

The book was "Steel Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist" and was written by a professor who worked with knifemakers to test some of his theories. Has anyone come across anything similar or have a good metallurgy book for someone with no background in it or that is geared towards knifemakers?

There is always the Verhoeven PDF but I think every copy of that should come with a bottle of aspirin. A quick search should turn up a link.

John D. Verhoeven wrote that too

I read it, found a copy at a university or college libary.
They are all connected, plus the regional libarys are connected, ask at your local and you can get it free, or a small fee.

I found it as an Ebook on line too http://wetlands.simplyaquatics.com/d/34842-1/Steel+Metallurgy+for+the+Non-Metallurgist.pdf
However the nice colour graphs and drawings are in the endpages and not in this

Thanks guys. I4Marc Verhoeven is who wrote the book I'm talking about. I searched the site and found the PDF. Thanks brother

I'm sorry, Augus7us, I thought you were looking for ANY books that helped, not just THAT specific book. Sorry, man - my bad!

MY local le print express just printed this and bound it for me for $20. I agree with the aspirin part. Some of the stuff is laid out easy to understand and the next chapter I will have to read 4 times to grasp it. arghh.

Hey Matthew no problem brother, I added the book you listed to my amazon wishlist for down the road. Based on the reviews it looks like it's a good read also.

Hope you guys that weren't aware of this one find it as helpful as I have.
