Hi, I'm new to the forum, and quite impressed with the level of the discussions.
I'm looking for some recommendations on good books about metallurgy and heat treatment. I was trained as a physicist about a jillion years ago, so technical stuff is not a big problem, but in independent study it's often nice to start with the more chatty books.
I read "Physical Metallurgy" by, uh, somebody, 20 years ago or so. This was in my previous phase of knife interest and elementary heat treatment experimentation (Heat O1 in Brownell's ceramic kiln. Pop it in some oil. Hardness test it. Say wow).
Anyway, that book did say all that much about heat treatment (or at least it didn't sink in, in much detail). It also had lots of non-ferrous stuff. Can somebody help me find a good book in the heat treatment of steel area?
CA
