Meteorite Damascus Hunter

Michael, did you slice up the meteors and add them to the damascus? Very cool.

Hi Will - No, I use crumbs and shavings that are left over from a meteorite cutting operation. These materials are then consolidated and layered between high carbon steel - then forge welded and folded. It takes several folds to get them to "act" like a solid piece. Once its solid, I add more high carbon steel and proceed with the folding and welding.
The bolsters are cut from a meteorite slab and then ground, polished and etched to show the pattern. They are attached with hidden pins and soldered in place.

Thanks for that explanation, I've only seen the canned damascus using meteorite shavings or the process you described. I wonder if anyone does make meteorite damascus using slices? Lay it up like tamaghane (not sure if I spelled it right.)
