My "Two cents"
- Necessity is the mother of invention, there's no hard and fast "right way", the best way is whatever works best for you, and that's arrived at through deliberate experimentation. Modify your scabbard if you need to, fashion a baldric/shoulder harness if you need to, don't settle on one method until you've tried several under "real world" conditions. Most important factors in carry method is size of weapon/tool, need for/or lack of need for concealment, type of activity, and level of training/familiarity on the part of the operator.
- I do practice drawing and resheathing my khukuris, but I don't fiddle around with "fast draw". By programming in the "muscle memory" of a smooth, safe, draw, I know I could do it quick if I had to. Standing in front of a mirror playing "Quick Draw McGraw" is inherently unsafe, and IMHO unnecessary. If you practice the proper movements, speed will take care of itself.
- If you're a newcomer to khuks, be advised, strolling around with your new prized possession 20" Sirupati hanging on your hip, IS going to eventually draw somebody's attention. Checking state and local laws before you venture out can save you a major hassle. Ain't saying leave the big blades at home, just saying you can't exercise "discretionary judgement" without having all the facts.
Be safe, have fun,
Sarge
