That's some good news there.
As far as i'm concerned the Brits outta be letting any gurkhas who want to reside in the country they fought for, permission to do so. If this is another way to get that wish granted ....then i'm all for it.
I can just see now, some British hoodlum crappin' himself all over when he gets the blade of a khukuri pulled up under his chin... and asked politely to cease and desist.
It'd be nice if we could just invite them all to come and stay here in thre good ol' US of A

It sounds like the Metropolitan Police are looking for some Asian-language speaking officers with friendly brown faces. Hurray for the 21st century! In Paul Theroux's The Kingdom by the Sea (1983, a good read by the way) he asked some PR flak for the Liverpool police why they didn't hire a few black officers and was answered with hysterical laughter.
The police in many parts of Britain don't interfere with hoodlums, gangstas and scrotes nowadays, in case that violates their "human rights".....
But the strange thing is, well-behaved decent people (of any colour) don't seem to have the same "rights".
Especially not if they try to defend themselves or their property against the aforementioned miscreants.
In addition to that, the "general public" is seen as a potential source of revenue, rather than something to be helped; and ordinary people are all guilty, thus they need to be under more surveillance than the population of North Korea.
Coming soon : children indoctrinated to inform on their parents and others, in traditional Maoist cultural-revolution style. And that, unfortunately, isn't an exaggeration.
To return to the original point..... Gurkhas could undoubtedly improve the quality of policing --- but only if the politically correct, government-appointed Stazi poodles in command of the service were first removed (and preferably the entire rotten political establishment as well).
