Mexican loop sheath & big bowie

I was planning a sheath for the Bowie I have previously shown on this forum.


I was going to make a Mexican loop sheath but I now worry about the fact that the guard sticks out (side) nearly 1/2" from the blade so it might not fit into this style of sheath well. I thought about a backer wedge but that will angle the knife outward.

Thoughts?

Make the back panel a smidgen wider than the guard, I think that would look pretty cool...what would you plan for retention strap?

Wider and maybe with a decorative slot to accept the guard then a form of retention would be built in!

I was thinking of Chuck's leather bolo type of strap.

Is it a single guard style, or does it have one on both sides?
I'm not familiar with Chuck's bolo style retention strap.
I've seen discussions on how a Bowie really doesn't require a retention strap....it's usually heavy and long enough that it's not going anywhere...probably true til you start hangin up side down in trees, etc...
