Heck, there are still those who lament the move away from integral FRN clips. No matter what the feature or change, it's impossible to please everyone and those who don't like it are inevitably going to be more vocal than those who are happy with it.If Spyderco puts the holes, it's swiss cheese.
If Spyderco didn't put the holes, an equal number of people would bitch and complain about the lack of 4 way clip mounting options.
It's like Spyderco is damned if they do and damned if they don't.
If the handle is black micarta, or black G-10 or CF for that matter, you can probably find small black nylon screws that will fit. Just thread them in, then cut the heads off flush with the surface.I wonder if one could make some very small threaded micarta plugs to fill in the holes that aren't being used? Probably impractical, but interesting to think about...

The bigger original C-54 Calypso is on my top 10 all time list of favorite Spyderco models ever. There is a Sprint forthcoming and I will be buying at least 2 of them. I guess that's why I love my older fixed blade Spyderco Temperance 1 model so well>> it's blade design is very similar to that of the C-54 model.
Even the Caly Jr. in Micarta is in a league of it's own. Both the big Calypso and the Junior Caly are all time favorites of mine and probably will be for some time to come.
The big Calypso C-54 model truly set the stage for a lot of what Spyderco has given to us in the past decade. The Temperance 2 is high on my list of fixed blades I want.
There are some Spyderco models that are well proportioned and designed so superbly that you hardly even know you're carrying them. The C-54 big original Calypso model is at the top of the list in those categories. But then again all of the Calypso models including the Caly 3 and Caly 3.5 all are designed and proportioned almost perfectly for EDC, outdoor cutting jobs and even for food prep.
I hope the Sprint Run of the older original C-54 Calypso model will reignite a lot of interest in the model and hopefully we'll see it back in the main line up at some point.
I don't know for sure but I think the C-54 was the first VG-10 folder Spyderco made>> if it wasn't the very first it was close. Another Calypso model that I still dearly adore is the Burgundy ZDP-189 Caly Jr. It's probably my favorite Spyder ever in that size range with the exception of the Lil Temperance. Great thread.
