I have an old Ka-Bar fighter that is now missing the leather rings. They were al dry-rotted and I pulled them off with the intention of replacing them with the factory style rings again. I have since decided that micarta, especially in blue, would look good on my knife. Is this possible? Has anyone done it? Any tutorials or other help you guys can offer?

Thanks

I've never done it, but I can't see any reason you couldn't stack the micarta just like the rings. The other option would be to drill out a block.

I think what legato is referring to is a mortised handle, which would definitely be another possibility.

even going 1/8 pins you still have to plan for the but cap
i have now done 3 kabars (traditional style but caps ) they are not fun to file and look good (nic-silver)
im sure you could find blue micarta but the trick is getting it all back together and looking good

the shaping of the handle was the biggest problem that couldnt be solved by time and a file have fun and let me know if you need any little tips along the way
