Micarta Madness

The upcoming Forum Knife will be my first knife sporting Micarta...and I will like it!:D:cool: I have not considered it in the past, only because I have dealt with the stuff over the last 5 decades in industrial and power generation electrical equipment, and have chosen mostly bone and wood for traditional knife handles.

I will say - all the knives pictured look great!:cool: But I don't envy the folks doing the cutting and rough buffing on these handles, as I can remember - all too well - the odor given off any time I've needed to cut or shape a piece of Micarta, haha.

Micarta? It can be the Right Stuff :D

My son in law's dad worked for Westinghouse from the early fifties until his retirement some years back. He was pretty amused by the demand for old Westinghouse Micarta, he told me they had literally tons of the stuff sitting in warehouses years ago.

Some great looking examples guys! I'm considering a Buck 112 in black micarta next.

View attachment 746757 Any chance I can talk you into putting that 85 in the box with the Beagle???

I also have a thing for natural canvas micarta!!!!

Unfortunately that's the other micarta I cut loose a long time ago. I had decided the stag of that version was the keeper but eventually cut it loose too. Blade is kinda fat for my uses but definitely a looker.

I have a lot of micarta scaled knives but this is my newest addition.

This Loveless Semi Skinner was made after his death, by long time associate and now "Loveless" owner Jim Merritt, but it has on it the last set of scales from a block of vintage rag micarta that Bob purchased in 1978. He called it "camo micarta" and didn't use it on many knives. I wasn't even aware of this until after the purchase so it makes it that much nicer to me.

This almost looks like the rags were finely shredded before being added to the resin due to such a fine grain structure throughout the scales. Very unique for sure.

Thanks Steve, care to share some details about the fixed blade? Maker and steel? I love the color on that micarta!
