I tried the search function but it is not working for me? If I'm getting the NMFBM strictly for a user, which would be best (most comfortable) with the smooth handle, regardless of looks?

Micarta, any day of the week and quite a few times on Sundays - if you ask me. Micarta is softer and grippier, G-10 is harder and 'sharper'. Micarta also seems to absorb impact shock a slight bit better, but that may be just me. Also, Micarta is cheaper, which doesn't exactly hurt for a user. Micarta is lighter, too, leaving the blade that much more blade heavy but lighter overall.

There is one caveat to Micarta, though: it does absorb fluids, which may be a problem if you intend to really get messy. It's not that bad, though, just takes some cleaning and time.

G-10. Micarta feels better in the hand, easier to maintain and shape, but its absorption of fluids in unacceptable in the areas where I intend to use the NMFBM. However, a lanyard is a must when handling smooth G-10, particularly when wet. Not always so with Micarta, which often grips better when moistened.

G-10 looks a lot better and uses just fine. However, with the smooth handle finish of this knife I would get the micarta for a user.

G what? 10? What the heck is that stuff? Is that the material they use for PC circuit boards? :p:p
