Someone mentioned that Busse knives with G10 handles gives them shivers and someone else asked what about G10 don't you like?
Well I thought that was an interesting question because I have one Busse with a G10 handle slabs and I can't seem to get to like it. It's a CG BATAC with black/blue G10 . I've tried over and over and still find something "off"with it. Maybe a bit too "handle heavy" or maybe just the feel of the material. I can't seem to describe it but I know I don't like it as much as my BATAC LE with micarta handles or any other of the micarta or resiprene handled blades I own.
Anyone else not care for G10 as handles on Busses?

I like both equally, but for different reasons; micarta feels slightly more grippy than G10, but G10 feels more "solid" and looks nicer in my opinion.

I don't know if G10 actually IS more solid, it just "feels" that way in hand. Also as far as looks go, snakeskin micarta looks better than any G10 I've ever seen, but snakeskin micarta is definitely the exception - in my opinion.

I like micarta for the lighter weight and softer feel.

The g-10 is tough as it gets though and comes in many great flavors. I like the lines that show in two tone G-10.

I agree with Grim here, though I will say that I love the TigerHide micarta as well as snakeskin. Too bad SS slabs only come standard.

Of my Busses, one is smoothed/hand-shaped olive/black G10, one is Burled Ironwood, four are Canvas Tigerhide micarta, and one is linen tigerhide micarta. For me, the Micarta is definitely gripper, though the g10 is more substantial-feeling. From the research I've done, I've also found that G10 is a bit tougher of a product as well.

I also prefer the micarta to G10. Grippier, lighter, just feels better to me.

I agree with Grim. I prefer micarta because it reduces a little bit of weight, adds more grip for me, and tough enough.

Micarta all the way... it is indeed more 'grippy'... especially when wet. G10 is great in appearance... I mean... it looks great. But for a user knife, I don't care for it. It is heavier than micarta, but the main thing I dislike the most is the fact that G10 is cold to the touch, like glass. Just doesn't feel right to me.

+1 for micarta.. though the black g10 on the BADs made me a fan of G10 again

Its great to see this thread, I've been wondering about the difference in the two. Looks like I should have went with micarta as I'm don't really like my G10 that much, too heavy in the handle. I don't suppose its possible to be sent back and redone? Any do it? How much?

I only have a FBMLE with a smoothed handle, and a pumpkin G-10 SS. The G-10 does definitely look great. It is heavier. I can see that on a much larger handle it would add a lot of weight. The grippy thing I think really depends on how it is finished. I have felt some very very grippy G-10, and some very smooth Micarta. I like them both.

I think Micarta is better all around in terms of comfort and (new word :p) Grippability. On larger knives G-10 is fine for me though because I usually wear gloves after tearing a couple callouses off my hands! I'm having Ban do his magic on a SHBM 1/300 blank that will end up being satin with OJ G-10 scales so I'll have at least one G-10 user in the lineup. Really like the OJ/satin combo. But really for everything else, I like micarta or some type of wood. I like wood too because as it gets scarred up it gets a better grip and also shows a lot of character :D which I think is neat.

I'm another micarta fan, but do like G10 for the reasons others have stated. If I had to pick one material over the other, micarta would be it.

I like both for use, but the G-10 just has a better look to me. It has a more solid feel to it which I like more also. They are both great materials though.

What about the paper Micarta? I really like the look of G10, and the feel and weight of Micarta like everyone else. I have one knife with Paper Micarta, which looks like black G10 to me. Does Paper Micarta have some negative quality that keeps it from being used on more Busse's?

Paper micarta is one of my favorites... Busse stopped using it though. :grumpy:
I heard it was difficult to work with and often times catches fire when machined...

Its too bad, black paper micarta and satin finish is one of the mmost beautiful combos ever produced by Busse.
Their old school powder coat Tan was also discontinued, and was replaced by a very ugly sage crinkle..
