micarta or g10

I prefer canvas Micarta for it's "gripiness". For me, it just feels better in my hand.

As for the Vermin & Strays, (a.k.a. Rats & Dawgs) they are, after all, Family. Let's make them feel welcome and maybe they will someday "see the light". :D ;) :p

Embrace the fleas and ticks, Hogs. Remember, NO REGRETS!

No worries, just another futile attempt to lighten the mood. No, I'm not gonna quit trying either! :p

Lets not forget our sense of humor people, sometimes its all we've got.

That's how I took it, all in good fun, it's all family:thumbup::thumbup::D

I prefer G10 nowadays. I have not experienced it being slippery when wet. It actually been quite the opposite.

I prefer Canvas when use is the most important thing.

I prefer G10 for when looks matter more than use.

I prefer Paper if you're never/rarely gonna use it.

In all cases, it's small degrees of difference.

I've got to agree with this one: I find the canvas much more gripable in the hand, especially when slippery. the G10 is nice, and some of the grip designs are fairly user friendly, but can be a bit slippery especially the ones that are smooth design. I haven't had a chance to use paper that much, but it would appear to be similar to G10 in usage.

For a user, Micarta all the way. More grip- less slip.

G10 looks nice but can be slick at times. It conducts cold into your hands alot more than micarta does. YMMV

Black Paper is slick year round. Add rain, snow/ cold and trying to rip your blade out of a tight kydex is a chore gloved or not.

Micarta for me. It has a great feel to it.

G10 is heavy, and doesn't grip well when wet or bloody like micarta does.
G10 does offer you some bright vivid colors, if your into that.

There is a way to make g10 grippy. Give it a bit of grit blasting. Some makers do this, and it leaves a nice texture to the scales.

I've bead blasted the handles on a Becker Machaxe and it helped immensely! I'm sure the same could be done with G10.

Thought I would throw in my 2 cents here: I prefer micarta to g-10 ANYDAY for a knife I plan to use. However, I prefer g-10 to micarta for a knife I plan to keep a safe queen. G-10 will never loose its colors (right?), whereas the green linen on my user FFBM is starting to slowly fade. I would imagine micarta definately dampens vibration when chopping quite a bit, whereas you really feel it in your wrist after chopping with a g-10 handled blade. All IMHO of course...:o

Agreed. I had my ASH (and the black G10 handles) re-beadblasted and it made a noticeable difference. Here's some after pics, and you can see the difference:

G10 Rocks! I would love some of that burlap micarta that Andy uses over @ Fiddleback Forge though.
