520 strips out of the way....approx. 2600 scissors cuts, how much do those day laborers cost down at the 7-11 or is it cheaper to buy MUCH bigger scissors? :D

It is what I use on all my micarta and would not consider going back to scissors. Make template for the size you need and cut around it. I got some lexan super cheap and use it. Look forward to seeing how all that comes out. Pics Please!

Therron. Try using a clear epoxy. You will better results in look and how well the piece hold up long term.

I haven't tried making paper yet, just denim and felt. I was thinking about getting a paper cutter and and putting a fence on the table so you could insert a stack of 4 or 5 sheets from the blade side, push against fence and cut. I cut fabric with scissors and 4 or 5 strips every couple seconds would be awesome.

Another option would be to invest in some large steel plates and make your mycarta in full paper size then cut down after it's done.

Doing full sheets would be difficult with normal resin but with slow cure hardener I think you'ld have plenty of time.

Just my ideas here, someday I'll give them a try though

therron258...Since I'm getting ready to sell a bunch of micarta for me I use only quality paper and West Systems hardener and resin which is expensive, it does keep all my whites white, sorry I know nothing of the Bondo Brand can you post any photos or links? Here's a link to what resin and hardener I use

Mark Thanks! I was just given one of those the other day model RTY-ST/1 rotary cutter set...I'll post pics when I use it tonight.

Tinbasher I remember using those in school, if my OLFA does not work I'll have to hunt one of those down

Josh I would need to find a decent press for 12" x 12" sheets, would be a lot easier once one got it figured out + it would save on a lot of time!

Think you wil like it Sweet. Doing 12" x 12" pieces of paper is tough. What happens is the epoxy want to pool in spots. That isn't right exactly but is what it looks like. Areas will hold on to more epoxy then the area around it so you get darker looking spots. This is even with 100% clear epoxy. It gets worse with resins that are less clear. Try to get the epoxy as even as you can throughout the piece and add the pressure slowly and as even as possible to help with this problem. Even then it the spots pop up from time to time which really hurts on the big pieces.

Mark 12" x 12" will be out of my range at least for now, I'll need a whole new set up and if 1 out of 7 goes wrong now I can just see how long it will take me to get one 12" x 12" right...that's a lot of material, work, time & cost to have just 1 go wrong

therron258 In the red, white & blue pictured there is 4.5 oz in paper and 3.5 oz epoxy in that finished chunk but what I yet don't know and I'll have to figure it out by keeping track is how much epoxy I use while making 1 since a lot of it gets pressed so I'm probably using way too much
