It 1st started off with me making ACU Digital Camo micarta slabs for a knife I'm making for my Bro to take with him to Iraq in August, having left over epoxy I just started to make whatever...paper, linen, military canvas (stuff stinks & brings back memories) and even cork...some of you guys/gals have seen my collection of bare blades now I'll never have to buy handle material again unless I want some type of wood or stone...:D

Nice.
Ive been dabbling in making some myself, what kind of resin are you using? And for the paper, did you use construction paper or what?
Looks good though.

Hey There, I am a Combs also (I live in Michigan by way of California)...My Father dragged us to a Combs family reunion down in Hazard County about 30 years ago. We stayed in a hotel near Combs. It was fun to look in the phone book and see more Combs than Smiths!:D

I am descended from Mason, one of the Eight Brothers. If that does not make sense to you, drop me an email and I will send you a link to a genealogy website dedicated to the Combs.

Micarta Warning!!! This stuff is addictive. This maybe more addictive than knifemaking itself.
It start out simple. You find yourself in auto parts place buying a quart of fiberglass resin.
Then you hanging out in fabric stores looking like some wierdo. This is the really scarey part, some guy named Jimi is now cutting your canvas for you. You finding yourself asking question like when does hunter orange canvas come in. I am not making this up.
When do you know you are hooked? When you graduate from auto parts place to Auto paint wholesaler and you find self buying an extra tube of hardener to go with you gallon of Resin. But I found a great powdercoater too on bulliten board for my painted tacticals. My god I am a micarta junkie. LOL

Have you been sniffing the resin?

Blacktoe: Im totally in the same boat! Everywhere I look I see micarta... I even traded a nice gentalman here a few slabs for some very nice burls! We were both happy. :)

Thanks everyone!

foxbat34 I 1st used paper from Royal Brites called 'posterboard' which is the fluorescent green & black but I found when I ground down a cutoff that this paper has a white or grayish core, it still looks pretty cool but not what I wanted...The 2nd paper that I now use is from The Paper Company and comes in a 12" x 12" sheet and is solid through...I only use West Systems a marine grade resin and hardener, expensive stuff but I believe it is the best out there.

fod paper works great, no problems so far but I still need to do a destruction test on 1 of each type of paper I have used...whats the not of best of luck you have had?

MonkeyFist this was one of the few solid print 100% cotton fabrics I found, its solid meaning both front and back sides are the same, a printed linen is whitish on the backside with color bleed coming through from the front, being new at this I did not want the whitish color in the micarta as I found out with that 1st the paper I made

BlackToe Knives yep yep, you are dead on...now looks like I'll be driving 77mi rnd trip to go buy this material I found..another micarta junkie is made
