hi im going to make micarta and i have a big jug of fiberglass resin and i cant find any hardener in my shop so i was wondering, can super glue be used as hardener for fiberglass resin? please answer quick so i can do it tonight and have it ready tomorrow?

Might not be the best stuff but walmart sells fiberglass resin and hardner and most are open 24hours if you have to do it tonight

The nearest Walmart is 25-30 miles away and I'm snowed in with a 2wd car so I'm screwed unless I can find some hardener in my garage

its not so bad on fort but i live out the south gate and no one gives a rats *** about the roads. we got about a 1/2 inch of ice with around a foot of snow on top

You didn't get any hardener with the resin? I'm sure you've checked but a lot of the brands big box stores carry have the hardener in a tube under the plastic lid on the can. Unless of course someone was in your situation and swiped the hardener.

Good luck,
Chris

i managed to find SOME in the shop but its taking forever to set up. it was in the cold for about an hour and then i brought it inside so it would cure faster

Rushing to do things that have chemical reactions involved rarely gets good results. It would have been far better to wait until you had the temperatures required to work the resins in.

BTW, you can't make Micarta at home. That is a commercial product made with thermosetting phenolic resins and tons of pressure. What you are making with cloth and fiberglass resin is often called MyCarta. Lots of folks make it, but don't expect it to be like real Micarta.
