I used black paper micarta on a knife I finished a few weeks ago and I have been using it (abusing) a good bit.

I love the look of the micarta but if it's dry it looks a little dull. I oil it every time I put it down for awhile and when oiled it really pops.

Do any of you ever put any kind of finish on micarta?

I alter my homemade micarta with superglue (cyanoacrylate) to get a smooth surface that can be buffed. This will change the micarta, less absorbent but also less grip stability. Superglue then fine sandpaper, not sure if it will work on an oiled substrate.

Have you tried buffing it? I'm not sure if this would work as I haven't used paper micarta yet, but it might be worth a shot.

Clean the knife.... WD40 the micarta and let it soak, wash lightly with dish soap and water.

Will do, I think I stopped sanding at 1000 grit it felt pretty slippery, I like the shiny "wet" look but I don't want to make it any harder to hold on to either.

I buff my micarta handles and don't feel it makes it slippery at all. Certainly no more so then a well finished wood handle.
