Are there a good on-line websites where makers can purchase Micarta scales for a knife? Any recomendations?

Looking for a nice selection of color and quality.

Thanks!

There are plenty of place. Just google it. There's knifekits.com, usaknifemaker, alpha knife supply, jantz, texas knife Supply, Pop's knife supply, etc.

Pops has good prices but the selection is minimal. The others carry a much wider selection.

Those are all good, I personally recommend Alpha Knife supply for G10 and some micartas, and usa for micarta in many different colors. If you are looking for forest green or block micarta, trugrut and northcoast knife supply may have them- Jantz has a good wide selection but in the past have been a bit higher in price IMO.

The stickies have a list of knife suppliers. They all sell Micarta.

I have to ask......how have you managed to be on Bladeforums for 14 years and don't know where to order Micarta?

Is it possible that the original poster is asking about where to buy pre-made custom micarta scales for various production knives? If so, I'm not sure, though there are many people who do custom work for production knives.

If you're just looking for the raw material, I also recommend Alpha or USAKnifemaker.

Hey, thanks for all the recommendations fellas. I will look into them all.

Ummm, to answer your question bladsmth, yes, I have been on bladeforums for 14 years I just have never made an attempt at making my own knife. Just started and was looking to source some nice micarta for the handle. I'm thinking navy and/or dark, dark blue.

If your going to make your own knife, why not skip on the mass produced micarta stuff and make your own custom made laminated handle ?

Although I've never ordered any yet, some supply houses like McMaster Carr carry phenolic and/or Garolite sheets. They offer different thicknesses but you're limited to a few colors. I plan on grabbing some when my current stock of Micarta/G10 scales runs out.

NAN,
I looked at your history after posting my question, and saw that you are a collector, not a maker. It just seemed strange that a person who was on the forum so long wouldn't have seen this discussed at some time.
Making your own knife is a far greater pleasure than buying one. Glad you are coming over to the dark ( fingers) side. The guys here will be a lot of help.

sweet,
While it may be fun to make home made MyCarta with cloth and epoxy resin, it is not going to be like the real phenolic stuff. Sort of like comparing used motor oil against Parks #50.

Guess I just never really paid attention. Thanks again for all the input. Look forward to following up.

Sweet, I like the idea a lot but I think for this first time around I will go with purchased micarta and maybe try my hand at my own next time around.

Based on my experience, blue or dark blue micarta are relatively hard to find as a standard stock item at any of the main shops. You could always have it made custom.

You might want to also check out Masecraft Supply since you are in NY and they are in CT. At least the shipping time would be quick. I met the guys at a show and they were great and their prices (at least there) made me stock up.
