I'm going to throw this out to all the golok owners out there: which material would you all recommend for a golok handle? I'm going to be pre-ordering a Bark River soon, and can't decide which would be more comfortable for hard use. Any input would help. Thanks.

Seem to recall reading a thread on this very subject recently. The consensus was that there is not much of a difference. I have and use both, danged if I can tell which is better, but would probably give the nod to G10.

G-10 is usually made with more texture/grippiness than micarta. I like them both, but micarta for me has a smoother, almost wood-like quality. I looked up the Bark River golok and what I'm seeing are choppers with handles that offer good retention due to their shape. So I'd recommend micarta as a very durable materal with a bit more smoothness to it, so that you would avoid blisters or hot spots during chopping.

Whens the new Golok coming out?

I have one with Orange G-10 on it.
Really smooth and hard but fairly comfortable.

To me,
G-10 is 'pretty' but feels hard.
Micarta 'feels' a little softer to me,

In hardness I would list them as,

G-10
canvas micarta
linen micarta
paper micarta

It's really a matter of personal preference.

Thanks. I think I'm going to go with a canvas micarta. Now to decide what color... And DLT Trading Co is taking pre-orders for the next run, not sure when they'll actually be out...

It's personal preference, but you won't find any tougher material than Canvas Micarta.
