Ive been wanting to try making some canvas micarta and have been thinking that instead of making flat scales of micarta that I could wrap and resin impregnate each strip around the handle and vacuum bag the whole shebang. Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks

One problem I could see is the front of the handle, unless it were wrapped against an already shaped guard or bolster, it might be hard to shape after wrapping. Other than that, the other thing thing I would worry about is the handle loosening. You could probably come up with something to keep that in place though.

Maybe do a hidden tang, wrap the tang in a single layer of wax paper, shape the handle on the tang and let it dry, then remove, shape the front, then re-insert the tang and drill through both for the pin?

now there's an idea. Then you could experiment with making finger grooves and such while the stuff is wet.

I think that one of the cool things of micarta is how the layers show up when you sand down the flat slabls, so even if it can be done, I don't think it will look that great anyway. Good luck and don't forget to tell us if you finally do it!

Ill most likely still sand it down, put grooves into it, etc. LIke I said just something that popped into my head. IG knows about the weird ideas that I have
