How do I polish sanded black micarta to make it black again and lose the greyish color? I came into a bark river knife that someone sanded the black micarta on, and I want to turn it black again..........

If you have a buffer that will give it a shine or get some super glue and put a thin coat on it. Both will give you a shinny black.

A buffer shined it up, but it still has that grey green look to it. I will have to try the super glue thing though, any tricks to get an even coat on it?

Great - maybe start out with 220ish grit - you don't want to change the handle shape but you need to get to just below (the grit number) where the previous owner sanded it, to get the scratches out...then move up from there. I never take micarta past 400 or so, it doesn't make a huge difference after that.

I have a combat MPX posted in the makers gallery currently, I took it (black G10) to 220/wet sanded with WD40, and thats all it needed...

You could even try just wiping it down with WD40 - if the other party used a high grit, anyway then this might work.

Hope this makes sense and good luck.

Appears to be workin. It is now the shiny black. I will just have to wait and see if it lasts.........

You can also soak it in mineral oil to make sure that it keeps that black color and does not revert back to gray!

I use vegtable oil . I give the handle a good heavy coat . let it sit over night , wipe of the excess and thats it,

Thanks, I will try that if the color fades. It is stayed black since wet sanding w/ wd40, but has a dull luster too it. Might try the oil thing tonight, and see if it works......
