People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a
confession of character.

Professing admiration for Michael Moore is ..........deleted............

Of course, he is an excellent tool for trollers, instigators, anarchists, and iconclasts.

I hope Wilson succeeds in his adventure re: Moore

Again, the thread title "Michael Moore Hates America" is the title of a MOVIE. It was not intended as an opinion one way or another about his politics, but rather was a link to a movie of said title. I am dissappointed that no one of yet has seemed to have looked at the link, let alone discuss the movie of said title. I apologize to Uncle Bill for opening this can of worms. I did not realise that the topic was so charged, or that Michael Moore was so sacred an individual to deserve such a response bother positive and negative. The movie is tongue in cheek, and I had intended the thread to be somewhat lighthearted, but instead it has engendered a rather heated response. Again, this thread was not meant to focus on politics, I am well aware that there are other forums for such discussion, but rather to highlight the film of which this thread is titled.

Hey Fed,

I just checked out the trailer for "MMHA". I have to agree with you on how tounge in cheek it seems to be. MM, whether you love him or hate him, has become a pop icon. I don't believe in many of his views, but i respect the people that do. America is great that way:) However, i do find it funny that another film maker shooting a make shift doc can ruffle MM's feathers so easily. All politics aside, I cracks me up that a fellow indie director can fluster MM more easily than any of the provocative "serious" news journalist can. Good stuff, fed. I understand exactly what you were trying to convey with this thread.

Hollowdweller stated in post # two that he is tired of people bringing politics to the forum. That is his opinion. He does not say, nor is it true, that politics are disallowed on the forum. We have the ability to ignore threads not to our liking.

That said, Michael Moore is a blithering idiot.

The outsourcing of jobs is a terrible thing for the short term. That is capitalism. It quashes people sometimes, and I don't like that. The alternative is much worse, however.

Michael Moore should be publically shamed for the mean trick he played on a a fine old man, Charlton Heston.

Mr Moore does not make documentaries, but propaganda.
..........................

The original question of the thread is does Moore hate America? The answer is yes.
Here is a little model: boy grows up, and in leaving home, resists his parents and breaks free. For a time, while questioning values and asserting his identify, he resents and hates at times those people given to him as parents. This is classic adolescence. Later, this critical eye is turned upon the Self, if all goes right, and he emerges from that. Institutions and Governments are easily dismissed and resented the way the parents were just a few years before- the dynamic hasn't changed- only the target. If all goes well, this too is placed into perspective. This is why, BTW, suicide bombers, and former SDS bombers, are YOUNG. This is the ripe time.

In truncated developement, there isn't a passage through. If the society becomes sick enough, and enough people haven't grown, there is less and less successfull development. Michael Moore shares self hatred, and hatred of the country of his birth with the leading intellectuals and artistic class of his day.

French Europe shares this hatred of the US because even though not born here, the culture is the dominant one and the target of the day.

In simplest terms, they are babies mascerading as grown men. Only numerous awards, letters after the name, titles and avant garde recognition keep them sheltered from this horrific fact. Babies, Gentlemen, babies.

Even a dog knows it must love its home. A sparrow knows this.
Not Michael Moore.

If you LOVE America you try to change it from within. Not go invading other countries and trying to inspire patriotisim that way. That is Hitlers way.

Feeling a little like Bonohoeffer right now :D

I'm with you dude, these guys are out of line,

Spreading single minded political propoganda is rude,
I visit the site for the khuks, not the right wing kooks.
f you can't control your whineing about people who have commited the
mortal sin of dissagreeing with you, you do need a therapist.

I'm not loggin in writing about that Idiot Rush Limbaugh, Am I? , what about some courtesy?

Opinions (especially some political ones) are like your backside, Just becasue you got a behind, doesn't mean the rest of us like it shoved in our face. If your inclined to sniff, go ahead you got the right , but Please do it is private!

Right-Wing Efforts to Censor Michael Moore

The campaign to silence Moore was taken up by the right-wing group with the ironic name Move America Forward. The group is headed by right-winger Howard Kaloogian, who also spearheaded the partisan campaign to quash a miniseries about Ronald Reagan and led the partisan fight to recall California Gov. Gray Davis.

Kaloogian also "credits himself with helping elect President Bush because he was No. 4 of 25 elected officials who signed a letter asking him to run in January 1999." The group, without having seen the film, "launched a preemptive attack against" the movie "by requesting movie theaters across the country not to show the film."

David Bossie's Hypocrisy

The conservative front group "Citizens United," which is headed by Clinton attacker David Bossie, is trying to get the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to intervene and censor advertising for Fahrenheit 9/11. Just two years ago, however, it was Bossie who led the charge against FEC interventions.
On 6/12/02, The Hill newspaper reported him saying his group feels "FEC rules and regulations are abhorrent...they restrict the American people's ability to have an influence in politics."

"Freedom of the press is free only for those who own one" :)

You guys need to lighten up and maybe just not look at posts you know are going to offend you. And if you must look then quietly back out the way you came in.

If you notice I did not post in the last Beheading Thread. I Hate those kinds of posts and wish there would never be another one in this forum but I know there probably will be.
I looked at it and then took my own advice, I quietly backed out the same way I came in. Those posts upset me to no end and for the life of me I cannot undestand why one human being would want to watch another human being beheaded.
I finally figured out that it was going to be a losing battle to try and keep those sorts of posts out of the HI Forum.
Doesn't stop me from complaining about the links though as it has been established they do not belong here.

Another alternative and maybe a good one is for the Moderators here to move these kinds of posts to the Political or Whine & Cheese Forums.
Personally I think that would be the best solution because those of us who like to berate and bitch about things like MM can continue to do so to our hearts content, same with those who want to watch human beings beheaded.

Anyone who wears a baseball cap can never be taken seriously, unless they wear a leather glove and make their living on a diamond shaped field.

Semper Fi's link is required reading.

And Moore is not an idiot. He is a narcisistic, selfish opportunist that will distort, conflate, and intentionally quote out of context what "facts" do appear in his films. If the facts don't suit his agenda, he creates some, and in a quite ingenious and deceptive fashion.

He is a skilled propagandist, expertly spinning lies of ommission and deftly leading the viewer towards unwarranted conclusions and associations.

He, like most anyone, is capable of bringing up some good points and ideas -- on the occassion that occurrs, they are lost in the whirling cesspool of deception that he somehow feels compelled to create.

It is unfortunate that he cannot put his skills to good use, but he seems pathologically compelled to deceive others and agrandize himself. I can't speculate as to how he came to be this way.

No, he is not the idiot, the idiots are those who take him seriously, and those who believe that what he produces are properly labeled as documentaries. People who by virtue of long-standing experience with the film industry cannot plead ignorance.

Ya can't "document" things that haven't ever happened.

On the hat note I was happy the the "fashion" section of the New York Times recently provided the useful and illuminating information that those who wear "truckers hats" (the gimme hats distributed by feedstores, manufacturers, etc, often at no cost for advertising) are knowingly or unknowingly following an imaginative and original "fashion statement" first made by a bunch of New York lesbians that felt compelled to boldly escape the dreariness of whatever they were wearing before. Wait till all the guys at the mill back home find out.

There is something "new" to learn everday.

In Wisconsin we wear them to keep the sun out of our eyes.

Somebody...maybe in Blue Highways...maybe Travels with Charley? ...might have been one of the motorcycle touring books...dunno...mentioned that traveling east-to-west across country....Western hats took the place of baseball caps as the conventional head wear.

And again, some of us are growing taller than our hair.

No disrespect intended, fellas, but chill:) I kinda get the feeling a lot of people in here haven't even looked at the link Fed posted. I understand tangents happen. That's what's so special about the Cantina. it is dynamic. However, I have to defend Fed's thread (wow poetic:)). This isn't so much about Moore whether he is right or wrong. Its about a tongue-in-cheek indie doc director turning the looking glass in on itself. However, i guess if you have any thread with Moore in it you will surely get a "Michael Moore is a ______." a.) national treasure b.) bane to all Americans c.) bad Peter Jackson look-alike. Anyway, all politics aside, it looks like it'll be a cool little flick. Now back to your regularly scheduled political squabbles;) Just funnin' fellas. relax and have a happy 4th of July.

This thread is not going to be censored or moved to Whine and Cheese. It will however be locked down for the time being.
