Description: This majestic sole authorship short sword is the work of up-and-coming maker Michael Rader. The blade, guard, and pommel were all forged by Michael from carbon steels. He has heat treated to fittings so as to make them have the same bold contrast as the blade. The long, slender blade is a bold 36 layer ladder pattern and is meticulously ground. The oval guard has been domes on the hand-side and is flat on the blade-side. The two side feature separate and distinct Damascus patterns -- pool and eye on the one side and ladder pattern on the reverse. The pommel features pool and eye pattern Damascus with a bold central core visible from the side.
The handle is one of the most unique handles that I have come across and clearly show's Michael's skill as a woodworker. Curly maple sections have been sculpted, resulting in a sure hand hold. Stained birdeye maple and snakewood bring in deep, rich tones and vibrant grain structures. All this is pieced together into a complex and artistic mosaic. Vulcanized spacer material between the handle and guard allow for slight expansion due to humidity and temperature changes. Showing tremendous skill in his fit and finish, the hand is disassemblable and is internally bedded with Acraglass (gunstock bedding resin). The sheath is formed from curly maple and has been lined for a perfect and satisfying fit to the blade. Both the sheath and the handle are finished with 15 coats of teak oil. Exceptional!
