I have a bowie that was supposedly made by Mick Sears (got it in a lot of knives off of Ebay). Very nice piece with some pretty thick carbon steel and micarta handles. Blade is stamped "MICK" on one side and "031" stamped on the other.

Google searches turn up next to nothing on him , so I was wondering if any of you may have heard of him before. I am looking to trade/sell it and some history on possible value would be nice.

TIA

I dont know anything about his work. But here is some contact info.he may be able to give you some background on the knife

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try to contact him and see the specs on this knife.

Just as a side note, where did you find that info? Some knife maker book/list?

I'm Mick's brother, Don. He is still very active in making custom knives. You can reach him at 803-773-2374. If that number becomes disconnected, email me at dsears@sc.rr.com for current contact info.

While doing some LE training in a woodland environment that was done by active-duty Special Forces guys back aorund 1989, I noticed one SFer was carrying what was obviously a custom knife, and I asked him about it.

He said it was a "Mick" and showed it to me, and he went on to tell me that Mick Sears had made it for him. It was a DANGED impressive knife, and the first "Mick" I'd ever seen.

Maybe my memory is faulty, but I thought he was in Gaston County NC then (?)

Just wanted to let you guys know, if you have a Mick knife or see one for sale, you may want to hang onto it. Mick passed away on this past Christmas Eve at the age of 69.
