Micra

That looks like one of the aluminum versions to me, in which case they had to have solid panels in order to maintain strength. The only reason they came out with the aluminum version was to compete with the sak classic and it's many color options.
Paint didn't last long on the SS frames, so they tried a plastic shell which created a rust problem under the plastic, so finally they came up with using aluminum which they could anodize.

Well dang me. Might as well hang me.

Sure enough, a close look reveals 2 layers. Who knew? Not me. THANKS!!

Coloring is entirely lost on me. I see the Micra (and the original PST) as something like a pure Vulcan aesthetic. The color has no function and adding it is simply illogical.

What I wish is that they would produce a Legacy styled tool about the length of the Juice line. Something between the Micra and the PST with Juice style plier heads, folding scissors, pen blade and small set of tools. If they could get the weight near 3 oz and keep it nice and thin, it could a great pocket carry.

One can dream.

Thanks for the lesson!

No problem, glad that I could share something that I've learned.
The tool I really wish they could make a micra with plies.
Maybe if they removed the can/ bottle opener and nail tool ( I can dig under my nails with the screwdriver ) to replace them with folding scissors, and maybe even replace the blade with a package opener with a wire stripping notch, and obviously the scissors with some pliers. I know that they sorta did that with the squirt p4, but it's still not as slim as a micra.
I'm sure they could at least get them in all stainless down to the size of a plastic covered or aluminum micra .

Actually my grandma had it for probably 8yrs and never used it, then my dad had it in a drawer for about 5yrs and never used it.
Then I got it 7yrs ago and it's been with me every single day since, it's kinda funny that it had to be owned by 2 different people over the course of 13yrs without getting used once until I ended up with it and it finally found its home😁

The question in my mind is "Does it matter?" I don't think so unless the new ones break easily with normal use.

Why so negative ? Anything wrong with asking a question ?
Anyway my question has been answered, so now we're just talking about the micra.
It does matter though
I wasn't sure if there had been any function changes. other than that there's familiarity of the tool, if anything had changed it might not feel the same.

Not intentionally trying to be negative, because I am genuinely interested. Design changes happen. I still haven't purchased a Micra. I tend to prefer the pliers to a scissors type tip. But I feel sure there are instances that I would prefer the Micra. These little multi-tools are kind of a new thing for me in the last 6 months.

I also prefer pliers, but the micra compliments my leatherman fuse very well.
The only thing it has that the fuse doesn't is the tweezers, but the drivers are smaller which is handy.
I would probably rather have small scissors over the tweezers if it meant that I had a plier head
( because they could easily be useable for splinters )
But the micra is still.awesome.

Been carrying my little Leatherman Style PS, lately as well as the Squirt PS4 on my keys. Yes a bit redundant. I use the Style a fair amount and like it. It is also legal for me to carry inside court houses (no blade) and so forth where I might need just a little tool with me.

I've got an 0697 and an 0797. Can't believe I've had it this long...

I once used my Micra to fix a gate latch and to fix a clock radio, but that's about it.

Different lifestyles and experience. Mine has been used almost every day since 1998, not for big chores and rarely with anything approaching abuse. I trim my mustache with it when I'm in the gym bathroom, also my toenails (in that order); occasionally tighten a screw in my front doorknob for years, because I'm too lazy to fix it properly; smooth out a fingernail that gets ragged while I'm out; install our window air containers in season with it just because I feel like; cut food at social events when the plasticware won't do the job; repeatedly tighten down a screw holding my rake onto its handle and never stays put; use the phillips head to unscrew the back of my watch for battery replacement; take measurements of small things, like the diameter of a washer or drain opening; and that's just a few things that have come to me at the moment. On the other hand, my wife seems to be living quite well without a Micra. In fact, she hates it, won't even touch mine, says it's too "industrial." So people are different.

I used to use mine every day for small stuff ( the gate latch was just one of the few major things I can think of )

I used to walk up to the local goodwill all the time, and the micra was perfect for checking for corroded battery's in stuff.

Mine has the cutout, and it was made in 1996. As far as I know 1996 was the micra's debut year.
So if you know something I don't know, I'd love to hear about it.

Mine has the cut-out too, and it´s marked 11/96. Old model, very old in fact, I guess.
