microsoft killed my computer

why do people upgrade with patches if their computer has been bulletproof since they have owned it?

Because the hackers and crackers never sleep, and since Windows is the most common operating system, that is what they work on exploiting.

I downloaded some optional hardware updates from Microsoft Update today and ended up having to uninstall and reinstall my soundcard to get it to work again. After that, SP3 went with no problems I have found so far.

I did the SP3 install yesterday or the day before with no issues. But my XP install was done only a few weeks ago so my system is pretty clean. Hopefully it stays that way.

well here's the final update {taps playing in the background, softly} finally got her into the restore panel and after a couple of attempts to restore to a previous date i decided to just bite the bullet and try the restore to original setup option. Well things were looking pretty good as the program started to do it's thing and then it froze, and a nice error message popped up advising me that this wasn't going to happen, i gave my old buddies at dell a call and they hooked me up with a restore disk for 10.99 plus shipping, this i can live with. thanks for all the help and sympathy i appreciated it.
