Microsoft Software... this is insane!!

Open Office also runs great on Windows. No need to turn your whole computer world upside down. :)

....What if you wanted to sell your PC and all your software to a friend , now he/she has to go buy new Microsoft products to use ?...

The way I understand it - yes.

As a writer, I am very much aware of intellectual property rights and copyright infringement. However, I feel no moral nausea when I purchase an original, shrink-wrapped copy of Photo-Crap and install it on my two desktops and on my laptop - despite the admonishment of the company not to install it on more than two computers or suffer eternal damnation!

It is silly.

Do you have to buy a different copy of the same CD to be able to play it in your car and house ?

The license on a CD is legally different.

You can sell your license.

If you don't like the way that Microsoft licenses their product, then you have an option: Don't buy it and don't use it. But if you want their product, then you have to accept the license scheme they choose to sell it under. It is their product and they created it and they can choose how they want to sell it.
