I have XL hands and the Amphibian is fantastic. I do not like the thin handle of the CR.Crooked River. I test drove an Amphibian and the handle sucks, for what it’s worth. MT designed that one for aliens or something, and I like Microtech.
The crooked River feels great in hand. Excellent ergos. But I have XL hands, not XXXL. I would think the Amphibian would feel even worse to somebody with larger hands than me.
Good for you. I don’t dig the way that curve scrunches up my fingers and the whole thing feels odd as a whole. I’m first and foremost for comfy handle ergos and I think it’s caca. My son is a fair hand with a knife as well and he agreed.I have XL hands and the Amphibian is fantastic. I do not like the thin handle of the CR.

I bought a clone of each so I can feel how they feel in the hand, blade shape and how they carry in the pocket before dropping the coin on a real one. They are shop knives for me as well.
Of these 3, the Amphibian handle feels the best to me(fills the hand and nicely contoured while being slim in the pocket) and carries really nicely. The Crooked River feels narrow at the pinky end of the handle and blocky. Adamas feels pretty good in the hand, but blocky feeling. It carries weird, maybe due to clip placement and how the weight is distributed? I was almost set on the Adamas, but in hand, it didn't float my boat.
I have a Bugout, Mini Rukusand Ascent from BM and MT Socom Elite, Vector, LCC, mini Socom, so I am not brand partial. But overall the Amphibian feels the best in my hand and has gotten the most pocket carry time.

Check out Kunwu knives. I picked up a gently used X Tao and it's awesome. Awesome lock, great smooth action, great feeling handle, good grinds, etc. The X Tao is my preferred folder carry currently and the clones stay in my shop pants to get beat up in the shop.
Buying both is always a good option. Maybe wait for a CR to pop up on the secondary market, as that MSRP is insane. I managed to find a real one on ebay not to long ago for around $240.Having seen your taking a liking to the SHF and the grip that seems to appeal to you, I think you would like the MT more. It has similar grip characteristics as the SHF.
I have both the CR and the Amphibian. I like them both. The Amphibian definitely has more grip though. As others have mentioned, the recurve blade of the Amphibian can be a bit of a turn off. I have yet to sharpen a recurve blade. So in that aspect the CR might be better if you've never sharpened a recurve and don't want to mess with it. Can't be too bad though.
MT has recently started offering the Amphibian in titanium scales and gives it a very nice amount of oomph handling wise. A perc that you in particular, might enjoy. They are pricey though.
Half jokingly, buy both. That will be the only way you can really tell if a knife suits YOU best. Then sell the one you do not pick.
