I picked up on Ebay a Microtech Currahee Knife Making Blade Blank that is unfinished and only RC 13 hardness. This is suppose to be a true D2 piece of steel. I have never made or hardened a knife and I am at a loss as to what I can do with this knife. It is a tanto blade and has the Micarta slabs with it.

Anyone here help me-I would be willing to send it off or find someone local to make this knife complete. Thanks in advance.

Where are you in VA? May be able to help ya' out a little..

Yes, let us know where you are.

D-2 is not the usual starter steel. Since the knife is a blank, it is not so much of a challenge. Read the info at the top of this forum, there is a lot of help there ,too.
I question the Rc13 hardness. The softest D-2 could possible reach is somewhere around Rc35.

They are in the 30's, very easy to grind soft. The blanks are thick as all get out and require quite a bit of stock removal. These are not the ones to try out grinding hard :)

I live in Richmond Virginia. The blank is from tactical Edge Solutions.

It is one heavy looking piece of blade-will have in hands by monday or tuesday-is bieng shipped as I speak.

I don't do heat treating myself, but I'd be up for maybe grinding it for you. Stacy lives that down that way, he may be able to help out too.

Richard Bridwell down in Taylors South Carolina can handle hardening D2. He also uses it in his knives.
