Just a heads up for anyone sending anything into Microtech for servicing. I sent a Socom Elite Manual made in July of 2023 back with a rattling loose glass breaker and pretty bad tool marks on the pivot screws back to Microtech on 10/22/23 using UPS.

I just got an email saying this:

Thank you for reaching out to Microtech Customer Service.

We regret to inform you that at this time we will not be able to accept any non-warranty service requests starting from September 26, 2023. This includes services such as replacement blades, re-profiling blades, handles, pocket clips, screws etc.... The same policy applies to the Marfione custom shop, where no purchases of COA (Certificate of Authenticity) or replacement boxes.

Our technician will address the function of your knife. The knife will also be cleaned, checked, oiled, and sharpened.

We kindly ask that you check back with us after February 1, 2024, for any service inquiries. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

Best regards,
Microtech Knives

So after February I guess I will find out if they will actually change the pivot screws. Or just try fixing the glass breaker.

They went from bad to worse. Seems like some companies just don’t give a damn anymore. Good thing is there are plenty of better knife options for the price of a microtech these days.

Curtiss F3
Hinderer
Spartan
Benchmade

Hell, even Emerson has better service than microtech

I sent an email to the microtech customer service email asking a question about sending a knife in for a broken spring and they just straight up didn’t respond at all. With how much they charge for these knives you would think they could hire another person to help deal with the influx of emails they get. I agree it would seem that they just don’t give a shit anymore. I’m not buying anymore microtech stuff.

That stinks. Did you get an RA # and all that beforehand? I feel like they should've addressed your issues as "non-warranty service" before you mailed it to them.

Yes, I told them the issue and they sent me a ticket number. I also explained what was wrong with it.

So, I got the Socom back yesterday and they didn't fix or do anything to the glass breaker. It rattles and you can physically move it back and forth. I think they would need to replace the handles because the hole the glass breaker is in is too big I think. I messaged them for a return paid postage label because I shouldn't have to pay shipping twice for the same defect it took months to "fix." I will keep updating this until it is resolved.

I got a message yesterday saying be on the lookout in the next 24 to 48 hours for a return postage paid label by email...

It sounds like they're saying the issues with the Socom aren't covered by warranty (no longer covered?)

Do you know what happened to the knife to cause the issues? Not many makers will warranty abuse of the product so it could be they're suggesting that's what happened here

The Socom Elite was manufactured 7/2023. The glass breaker was loose when I received it, or very shortly after. It's definitely under warranty. I just don't think they want to replace the handles. I think they were milled too large. After I get the UPS label and it is mail it back again, and finally get it back again, I might disassemble it to see if they fixed it properly or just rigged it when i get it back. I will take pictures if I do. Anyway, it's definitely a warranty issue. Another member/service provider here told me how they are put together, and offered to do the work for me free of charge. I will see what microtech does.

I completely agree it *ought* to be covered

I received the knife back again yesterday. I haven't taken it apart yet to see how they fixed it, but it is not as nice as my $120 Kershaw launch 11. It's honestly higher quality. Now, if Microtech can just learn how to use a torque wrench or simply stop stripping screws....4 marred screws on this knife. I won't be buying anymore Microtech knives, and I've had a dozen or so.20240203_102712.jpg20240203_102650.jpg20240203_102549.jpg
