Microtech DOC Lock up

Hey BF! (Not sure if this is the right forum, mod please move if it is)

I'm new to the knife world, somewhat. I started collecting knifes a few months ago and just got my first Microtech. It's the DOC blackout. I really like this knife, very smooth action, dead center, well balanced, it's aesthetically beautiful and really is just a piece of (American) art. However, I have one issue with it. The lock up seems rather late and is somewhat hard to disengage for closing the knife. Compared to my GT Helix or ZT 0566BW, it just is much harder to move. Those two are just a breeze to open and close. It takes a lot of strength with my thumb to get it to disengage.

My question is: Is this normal with some knife companies (or MT in specific)? If not, what should I do about fixing this issue? I've read horror stories on this forum about MT Customer Service and kind of don't want to deal with them, especially since I'm not the original owner. I could live with it but if there is an option to remedy this, I thought I would at least ask. Thank you

It doesn't look too late. Mine is earlier, and while not overly hard to open, it is still a beefy, stiff knife.

There is an adjustment to make the lock engage earlier, but it has proprietary screws. You can buy aftermarket wrench for them or send it in to MT, which is not a fun process. Yours doesn't look like it needs adjustment.

You might also try a little graphite on the lock surface, to see if that helps.

Ok, I searched the forum looking for a tool and found this one. Should be perfect for my body screws, Ill figure out how to get the pivot. As far as graphite... I found this, would that work or should I be looking for something else?

Thank you

The drivers look right -- they are listed for body screws on the DOC. I personally would not adjust the lock if it is at 50 percent.

For graphite, try using a pencil. See if that helps.

Ok, Ill hold off on that. I'll try the pencil trick and see how it goes when I get home. Thank you.

Just FYI, I penciled my DOC just now, there is almost no resistance to opening the lockbar, other than spring tension, which is stiff. The lockup is still solid as a rock.

Mine is stiff and doesn't stick at all.

Yeah, I just did it too and feels smoother for sure. Just the stiff tension on the lockbar. Thank you, that helps. It's much more manageable to open and close one handed.

Yeah, I'm not getting a stick. I was just worried about a late lockup mixed with a stiff lockbar. But my lockup looks normal compared to yours and Twindog.
