Hi I'm new to the forums but I went to my local knife shop and saw a microtech in the case it was a ultra tech to be exact,But it was selling for $350 with on box or papers! I've heard there are fake microtechs so I was wondering if it was a fake. And was also wondering if there were a lot of reputable sellers on this forum so I can buy a otf microtech. Thanks have a nice day :)

$350 for an Ultratech is way high. But then again it all depends on the specifics. Today I went to a local shop that is an MT dealer and saw one UTX70 priced significantly above the others, but it had a CF body and damascus blade. Still a UTX70 but more of a custom piece/limited edition and priced accordingly. So bottom line is it may be a legit Microtech, too hard to say without detailed pics. It may be an overpriced plain jane UT or it may be something different. Again, hard to say without pics.

There are plenty of legit dealers who support this site. Check out www.thehollowgrind.com, they generally have a good selection of MT. According to my dealer MT autos are in short supply right now because of the legalization in Texas. They've seen an explosion in demand.

Thanks I was also wondering how rare bm model 42s are the shop I went to had one and I was winding if it would be worthwhile picking it up for 350$.

BM 42s were discontinued, so usually they are only available secondary market. $3-450 is about the going price, depending on condition.

If the 42 is worth that much money to you then go for it. They're fine knives and no more will be made. From what I've seen of the 4X benchmades condition has a lot of impact on pricing so take that into consideration when thinking of price. If you're looking for something to appreciate in value you'd likely want to pay much less for something with scratches on the blade vs what you would pay for something LNIB.

Well it's lnib it's just been sitting on the box in a glass case for around a year.what I would like to do is get a combat troodon or a lightfoot.

Hi can anyone provide information on how to spot a fake microtech? I have a trade pending at the present and need assistance with the matter ASAP. The gentleman says his knife is a microtech ultratech with Damascus blade. Supposedly it is a custom job by a former employee if microtech. There is no box, bag or paperwork included but has an alleged $900 trade value.

You'd likely have better luck starting your own thread in the automatic/switchblade subforum

Since we are talking dealers, Feedback is the place to be.
It's not uncommon for brick and mortar stores to sell items for MSRP or more, not what actual retail prices we are accustomed to. The penalties for selling a counterfeit item would be high for a brick and mortar store and it is unlikely they would stock/carry and sell them without risking significant damage financial and legal. The bet way to spot a fake anything is to always make sure you buy from a legitimate/authorized retailer. If a deal is too good to be true, then it is. Sometimes you have to stop, take a minute, think and use some common sense and leave emotion out of the equation and just listen to your gut.
