Microtech Lock Bar Stick-Socom Elite

I have a Socom Elite. The newer version with the CF inserts. The steel lockbar sticks when I try to disengage it. The stickiness (kind of feels like jamming) is light sometimes and very hard at others. If I open the knife with a very hard flick, no stick. Sebenza style, no stick. Medium speed flick is what really gets it to stick. I've never had a knife that sticks at different degrees of difficulty. Tried graphite, been trying to wear it in, but no luck.
Anyone have a clue on what could be the issue?

Wow that lockbar looks really far over. I'd say send it back, but Microtech don't have the greatest warranty service.

Exactly what I thought too, but a lot of Socoms that I've seen have a late lockup. It's like 90% but it is still solid thankfully

Send it in to Microtech. Their warranty service is on the mends. I sent them my Socom Delta and I have nothing but good things to say about their service. Mine was covered under warranty.

Interesting. Were you the first owner? I hate when companies don't transfer warranty coverage

Try sending it through a dealer if you aren't the first owner. I have had a couple of small things I called MT about and they had good customer service for me.

I've just had an experience with another liner lock where it had late lockup and was sticky, when the stick went away finally I had vertical blade play.

Also I didn't think steel liners had sticking problems like titanium liners do. Maybe someone could enlighten me.

Me neither. I thought only Ti stuck because it isn't as hard as steel. Never ever seen this with steel on steel engagement.

I've sent more than a few MT's back directly even though I'm was not the first owner of them. It helps when you are nice to them no matter if they are nice back to you. Get an RA before you send it off. If you don't you will have a hard time. When you follow their steps it is a breeze. Other than the wait.

No, I was not. The original owner registered it in his name and I still didn't have an issue. I was given an RMA within a few days and it was turned around in under three weeks. Yeah that sounds like a long time but they had to replace the entire lock side of my knife and they had to wait for extras to come from production that weren't already spoken for with customer orders.

I beg to differ. I happen to own 3 Socom Elite and Delta knives. The Elites have a fixed lockbar, that is the way they open on pretty much ALL of the newer models. It may look a certain way, but that is how it was made, and came from the factory I assure you. Here we go again with assumptions. Before stating something as matter of factly, you need to always try and leave your self room for error. especially when discussing things with limited knowledge of the topic at hand.
I sent a Socom Delta back for a crazy off center blade and a sticky lock. It took 6 weeks to get it back, no fuss, no muss.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Rev...but isn't there a little tab on the lock bar that will only let it advance so far...or a tab on the blade? If I remember my MT Select Fire was like that as well.

There isn't one of those on the Socoms. I remember having one on my SF.

OK..Here is the fix. It is very simple. Take a pencil. Rub it on the lock face and it will be gone. That simple. I have experienced that problem with my Socom as well.

As far as Microtechs Warranty service. Call for a RA send it in with the postage fee and wait about 6 weeks and it will be at your door.

I mentioned that I did that and it actually made it worse.
