Is Microtech mini SOCOM a good utility
knife ?

If it is, which type of blade would be better ? clip point or tanto ?

I've got a Mini SOCOM clip pt., and think its great. Workmanship is top-flight, and its a 'handy' size. It makes a great utility folder.
