Extremely tempted, sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I've never handled one of these knives, select fire means you can open the knife with the button or by opening like a standard folding knife correct?

Correct. Select Fire is actually the model name; MT makes one that is manual only but this is the "dual action" model which can be opened manually or with the button automatically. It even comes with a key that allows you to lock the auto function out so that it can only be opened manually, making it legal to carry where autos cannot be carried.
