Microtech Socom Elite manual.

I have a SOCOM Elite M.A. also. Its a pretty heavy duty knife.Has a pretty thick blade. Its well made good tolerances and opens very smoothly.

Alright guys, it looks like the Mini-Socom Elite is the one for me.
I'm ordering it from The Bright Edge today.
Thanks for the guidance.

Yeah...
With my current financial state I can't go for the full size, sadly. Not yet at least. This should be a nice upgrade from my BM Stryker (ATS-34) for EDC at any rate.

fwiw the SOCOM and SOCOM elite are diff, the S OCOM has a std liner lock while the elite has a "microbar" IIRC, whatever its called its much more heavy duty, also the elite has a thicker handle, and some other things too.

not that a std SOCOM is bad but its not an elite.

also IIRC most SOCOMs are manual while most elites are autos.

The only difference between the elite and the std socom is the microbar. Blade thickness is the same. I know I had both. Both have 154cm blades. The liner lock on the std Socom is also very thick, maybe even a little thicker than the elite.

I traded off one of my socoms fr another micro that I liked. But the socoms are nice, elite or not. And they were both full size.

I had a full size SOCOM Elite with a tanto blade and it was chisle ground with the anopeen finish! The stupidest thing I ever did was to trade it. I did it here on the BFC about 3 years ago, so someone here has it. I forgot who it was though.

Are you kidding? The microbar on the elite is almost as thick as the blade... The original SOCOM's lock was quite thick, but it wasn't even half as thick as the microbar... Even so, I think I like the SOCOM's lock better than the Elite's.

yes, you are correct, the microbar was very thick, but I also agree that socom's lock felt better. In any case, neither is available anymore which I never understood why they stopped making that size.

Well all, yesterday I received my Mini Socom elite.
The difference in quality between it and my BM Stryker is like night and day. The kicker is that I spent the same on the Benchmade when the Microtech is obviously twice the knife.
The blade is dead center and shaving sharp. I cut the **** out of my finger when closing it the first time (idiot) and I barely felt it. The lock feels like it could withstand a nuclear blast. There is zero blade play.
I hope to have some pictures of it soon.
Thanks for the information and advice everyone.
:)

i too have had both and the handle on the elite is thicker, it also has inlays on both sides of the handle vs 1 side, the clip is different, and on mine anyway the liner lock is not nearly as thick as the microbar, i am looking at them right now.

never said the blades were diff thickness.

i prefer the microbar myself, i like the "clunk" when it locks open, it also seems like it would be stronger, maybe not but it sure looks more heavy duty to me.

Order, where in CT are ya? Spam removed:rolleyes:

I picked up a Tactical SOCOM manual with the black S90V blade/claw logo last year for about $225. It has the Microbar, and let me tell you, this knife is a tank, yet very light and sleek.

The Microbar is one of the thickest and most impressive locks I have ever seen, as thick or thicker than the thickest framelock, I believe it is approx. .130-.140" thick, in comparison, the massively thick liners on the Strider AR are "only" about .100".

It seems to me, that in theory, it may be tougher/stronger than a framelock because with framelocks, it doesn't matter how thick they are, they all have to be reduced severely in thickness at their base, otherwise, you would never be able to bend the lock, so, even the thickest framelock is "pre-weakened" in a sense, and only as strong as its thinnest point, which is often surprisingly thin where it is relieved at its base. Also, they have to be bent, and are thus not really optimally aligned with the tang of the blade, whereas with the MB, it uses a small coil spring to provide lock bar tension, so it retains full thickness throughout, and it doesn't have to be bent either, allowing for better, straighter alignment between lock and tang, so, I would say in theory, it has the potential to be one of the strongest locks available, and for $225, I can't imagine a finer, better made tactical folder.

I think this is one of the most underrated tacticals out there, the F&F on mine is flawless and puts many, many customs to shame, for a lot less money, and again, the Microbar lock is equally impressive and underappreciated, and at $250 or so, these knives are a deal and a half. :)

I'm in East Hampton, near middletown. (selling not allowed here and you know better than that - last warning -Gus) Like Mega said, its a beefy, solid folder, but I like my LCC a little better!

Taz.
You have been around long enough to know that what you are doing is not allowed. :grumpy: You also know what it takes to sell at B.F. Don't pull this stunt again.

Sorry, Bastid. My bad. Haven't been around here in a while and forgot the rules! :foot:

As for the DA in CT, they are actually legal to own, just can't carry them or have them in a vehicle other than going from the place of purchase to home, and back to either sell it or send it off to repair. Its pretty much a collectors clause. Kinda pointless, though, pay that much for a knife, and can only carry it in the house, not even on your own property outside your house. Most stores in CT won't sell to you, but i can point you in the direction of a store who is willing to buy auto's and transfer them to you! I was lookin at a Halo 2 from MT a while back and it took a while to find a store to buy it and transfer it legally. Most wouldn't touch it unless you are military or LEO, and most of the stores told me it was illegal to own, period.

http://www.tadgear.com/edged tools/cmtx5_ma.htm One of the current MT MA's available, but its not much bigger than the mini elite frame lock. And its got S30V steel...great stuff!

I have a MT LCC, Vector, Mini Socom and the Socom Elite. The mini is a nice small size for carry, the LCC is a big, beefy knife, but I much prefer the thicker lock bar of the Vector and Socom Elite. The mini isn't bad with the liner lock, but the big LCC blade with the liner lock makes me a tad nervous. The full size Socom Elite is BIG. If you like the size of the mini, the full size might be big for ya. All of the MT's I have seen are incredibly smooth and sharp. The full size will definetly scare the sheeple!!!

Order, shoot me an email, you don't have a visible email or private messaging. I can give you the stores name and stuff, they are pretty good to deal with and will give you decent prices. I just don't want to post the name and phone numbers here. They bought out another knife/gun store in CT and may have some stuff not out in the cases. They used to have Brend MT's, and very high end MT's (polished blades and inlays in the handles), but I dunno if they sold them or just don't have them in the cases anymore, but I believe they are an authorized MT dealer last time I checked.
