Hey guys,

Im fresh meat in these forums so please go easy on me :) My name is cedric(nickname ced). I finally found a group of people as nuts about a good blade as I am :D I was wandering around the forums and didnt see anything on the knife I am getting(maybe I missed it) so I needed some info if anyone could help me out. I picked out the Microtech Socom Elite folder last night. I heard nothing but good from different people about microtech and their knives. It did fit my standards as far as quality, and materials. What I dont know is, is the reaction from a whole bunch of diff people that arent out to sell the knife and use them in the feild. Was it a good choice knife? Is it strong enough to be a hard use knife? Basicly anyones experience or their opinions would be greatly appreciated. Here is a pic of it if anyone is drawing a blank on the knife im talking about.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I have 3 Microtechs and all three are top quality. My socom elite is an automatic, so I don't carry it daily, but it's a well made knife.
Welcome to the forums.

Excellent choice. Microtech makes a high quality knife. I would rank them as one of the top production companies going. I have a couple of SOCOM Elites. Comfortable, locks up tight, cuts like a lightsabre.

The only thing I would change is the inserts to rayskin. I think the rayskin adds a nice look to the knife.

Ced,

You made a great choice!:D I love my Socome Elite. It is one of the best quality fit and finish production knives made IMHO. It is a knife that will serve you well for years to come. Microtech makes a very good product and the Socome Elite is one of my favorites in their lineup. Have fun with it, and WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!:D

THere's many folks who buy Microtechs and then just keep them in the drawer because they're too beautiful to use and somewhat collectable.

I have one and it's probably my favorite folder overall, although not the only one I carry beause it's too large for certain business occasions. When I'm not dressed in business attire, you'll probably fine my Socom E in my pocket. It locks up tight and cuts like the devil. I like the drop point plain edge version best.

You'll love it. If you don't, then email me as I've been thinking about buying a back up.

An outstanding choice! You will not be disappointed. The Socom Elite, is in my opinion, one of the best knives MT ever came out with.

Welcome to the Forums.:)

I only know of rayskin from the japanese katanas.. Could you show me a website that would do that sort of thing? I never knew you could customize a folding knife! Thanks :)

Here is a pic of a Microtech Amphibian with the inserts:

I don't have any experience with this person, but I have seen him mentioned in other threads. His name is Matt and his email is:

thewg2000@yahoo.com

I believe he will sell you the inserts to put in yourself.

The following thread mentions the procedure, fairly easy to do.

I wonder how well they'll wear on a user compared to the stock kraton inserts?

Shootist, is that a DeSantis belt? Looks just like one I have.

I borrowed the pic from another thread. I would love to have the belt or the knife. :D

Rayskin is very, very tough. I would think it would hold up better than the kraton.

My Socom Elite was my EDC for 6 months or so, until it half-opened in my pocket as I was pulling it out.

I normally carry my single blade folder point up, unclipped, in my RF pocket, along with a hefty keyring and sometimes Zippo lighter. (SAK Champion in LF, with more keys & other stuff).

The last time I carried the Socom that way, one of the non-knife items bumped the thumbstud as I was pulling the knife out of the pocket. The point came out of the handle enough to catch the pocket fabric, and the blade came half open in my pocket.

No harm done, but could have been. Definite adrenaline rush. Took 2 hands and 10 second or so to get the knife closed up again and remove it from the pocket in order to use it.

For the last year and a half since then, my Al Mar SERE 2000 has been my EDC. The point of the SERE is much more deeply covered by the handle shape when closed, than is the point of the Socom.

The SOCOM Elite is a great knife. I carried mine for over a year. Great lock up. Feels good in your hand. The blade takes a great edge. Well built folder.

I recently changed to a BM 705. Only because I found, for my daily uses a larger knife was not needed. A smaller one was easier on the pocket.

If a large folder is what your looking for you can't go wrong with your choice....
