Microtech Socom Soft Detent?

Just picked up a Socom and the detent seems very soft.

As in, I can shake this knife out with very minimal wrist movement.

Is this normal? I've seen several reviews and watched many deployment videos and have not heard or seen anything that would appear to be soft detent.


Just want to confirm that I may have gotten a lemon before I send this thing back.

Same here! Bought 2 in last 3 months Mx my fist one, production 2/2019 has a stiff detent. Can’t shake it out to save my life. Fires out hard, fast and locks with a bang. My new one with a 5/2019 production is super soft. I can flick my wrist and it flys out. When I engage it normally the action feels soft, slow and too easy. I sent an email in to microtech. Really changes the feeling of the action, not happy.

I bought my first manuel fold Socom elite two months ago, it was a 2/2019 production with M390 steel. The detent was really stiff at first, but fired and hit with authority, like hearing a shotgun rack one in the chamber. Simply awesome. Some people couldn’t even engage the action. A little break play And and a little pivot oil and it’s now not as stiff it still rock solid, it’s addictive to play with. Decided to grab another in black with a different blade style this time and I’m so disappointed. It had oil residue on it and it’s so soft, the resistance at deployment actually feels slow and won’t lock unless you put some effort into it. Sounds nothing like my first and ever one I’ve watched a video on. I can flick my wrist and blade will deploy. Shake it it falls out. So disappointed. It’s a 5/2019 production w/204P steel & anniversary box. I sent an email to Microtech but I k ow turn around time is 4-5 weeks. That sucks. Came from a very reputable store. Anything i can do? Could it just be too oiled?
