I think the definition would vary from person to person. I try to get the best quality I can. Trusting your comfort or life to cheap gear is not productive in the long run. ;)

Thats why its called mid end gear, theirs a diffrwnce between something being good for the money and being cheap.

I dunno. I can visualize a top end, and a bottom end, and there must be something in the middle, but a middle end?

Yes, i consider chris reeve k ifes to be top end, and crkt to be low end, and then kershaw to be a mid end knife

Better do what he says, he just joined.

I've heard it said "mid range" but not "mid end", and that means, your idea of high end and low end, and especially "mid end" is going to be different from other people.

But, if it's just the "Quality" gear you're looking for you may need to be a bit more specific as to brands instead of just one knife

Le's cut the newbie a break - he's new and it seems that English is probably not his first language. I'll play: Good low end stuff = Mora and Opinel. Both do a lot for what they cost. A little higher up the foodchain would be maybe a Becker BK 16 and a Zancudo or even a low end Spyderco (like a Delica). A Sven saw is a super useful tool for around $30 or so, and while Tramontina machetes only cost around $10, they rock. If you want to spend more ($50 or so) then Condor machetes are a great piece of gear at a very reasonable price.........

Damn i gotta close this shit its just a opinion you fucking neo nazi's

I would agree with your picks, just never thought of a mora as low end, just inexpensive, too nice/useful of a knife to be low end, except by cost, but I guess that's the definition of low end he's looking for.

as for first language not being English, if its not, he got the swearing down.

Chinese Spyderco, versus Goldens.

Here is the message that I am trying to spread and tired of everyone thinking that they have to have a $400 Chris Reeve knife have a good knife in their pocket there's a difference between an inexpensive really good cheap knife and just a plain cheap nice cheap Chinese knockoffs are not good and they are not reliable but if I get a Kershaw from China that has titanium scales and has a very good blade on it even though it's cheap it's still a good knife for the price

You need to learn some manners pretty damn fast.

ETA: I retract my previous statement regarding cutting this guy a break and apologize to all for having done so.

Well that went badly quick.

First off, welcome. Secondly, good effort in trying to start a discussion.

I'll do my best to postmortem this thing and hopefully you'll understand what went wrong.

Your first post is what we call a drive-by. Comment or question with no context, or thought of your own. Then when folks asked for clarification, you just re-stated your original premise. Here's why that's a problem. There is no way to define the middle. Middle what? quality, price, something else? It all depends on what each of us see as the middle. For example, there are members here that would see the Chris Reeve as the middle. Then the name calling. Really? Its just not tolerated here. Then your last comment seems like you jumped ahead in the conversation. What makes you say that? Why would you have that impression of this group? Or are you referring to others?

Do yourself a favor, find the edit function, change those comments a bit, and then sit back and read a whole lot. We are happy to give opinions, and answer questions. In fact there are threads many pages long that are little more than arguing over the length of a piece of string. But only as long as they are civil and productive. If you don't like that option, then its a simple matter of logging out.

Lets all take a deep breath and try again. Keep it polite. Or the warnings can become infractions.

Uhm.. crkt has more "mid end" and high end than kershaw.

And how could mid be an end? Wouldn't it just be... the middle?

It's called middle range. The middle has the privilege of not being precisely at the middle, the top and bottom can be ends or you can have top range or bottom range, however, most would say top tier and bottom tier, but then there's middle tier.
Myself, I'd put Buck's 110 in the mid range for it's quality even though it's at the bottom end of price. At least the basic model with 420hc is.

there is the option to put where you are from. Pretty combative newbie.

Yeah, sometimes I think that technology isn't all that it's cracked up to be. In the good ole days (before obnoxious Alpha Hotels could hide behind a keyboard), someone would say something like he did and instantly get his ass kicked. He'd then walk (or limp) away wiser for it and grow to maturity. Now we have a nation of perpetual children......
