Mid-Tech Bushfinger Pass-Around Review #1

Huh. Who knew? I certainly didn't. Thanks for the info.

I guess it's not a big deal. You could "sharpen" the spine and square it up if you wanted. Might damage the engraved Fiddleback stamping though.

I don't know... I have a Skookum Bush Tool that I like a lot. One of its cool little details is the squared off spine. I use it quite a bit and I'm sure it ends up saving wear and tear on my edge.

In any case, thanks for posting the review and photos.

Here's one of the quotes from where Andy gives his reasons for chamfered spines.

Duality of reasons really. Functional, and conforming to knife community tradition as well. I did begin to see that compared with better makers knives, mine with the sharp spines looked un-finished. I justified it over and over during criticism sessions with mentors because of ferro rods, and scraping with the spine. Then one day it just began to see lazy, craftsmanship wise, to let pieces go out without that 10 second step.

Probably one of the best video reviews of a knife I have ever seen and you did not say a word! Awesome!

I agree with everyone else. This was a fantastic review! It is going to make me seriously consider getting one for my boys to learn with.

Cool. Thanks for that, Thurin.

Having only become active here recently, it's interesting to get the context on this.

I agree with both sides of the discussion, I think. The knives do look better with the rounded edges on the spine. But, for users, I think aesthetics is not so important, and I prefer the sharper spines personally.

I haven't had near the usage that you've been able to put yours through, but what I saw of it while I had it was good to go.

I am watching the pass around with interest, looking forward to hearing the opinions from different perspectives of use.

I'm not sure what to say (which is why there are no word in the video) other than thanks!

My prod bushfinger is expected to arrive tomorrow. Can't wait ....

Cool! I think you'll like it.

Awesome job. I especially enjoyed the video.

Thanks bro! And thanks for the kind words elsewhere as well.

Thanks CD! I have the same thought for my daughter, although now I might wait for a HB for her.

Cool. Thanks for that, Thurin.

I can see both as well. I guess it depends on the intended usage of the knife.

I'm always amazed at what folks come up with and then go "why didn't I think of that?"

Just an FYI, I posted this review in the Knife Reviews and Testing forum (wow it's dead in there) here on BF and at a few other sites.

Hey Thurin:

Fantastic job on the review, in particular the video. In fact I would like to nominate you to receive an Oscar................

A fiddleback Oscar salute that is ;)
