Mid-Tech Kephart- Initial Observations (Rather Photo Heavy)

Great info and pictures as usual Brian. The Kephart was the 3rd Fiddleback I picked up and still one of my favorites. To me, it's the quintessential Fiddleback design.

Thank you Nathan. I think it was my 5th...9th...and 12th lol, or something like that, but my favorite for bushcraft since the first one. Soooo glad I finally have it in CPM S35VN :D

The biggest difference between the kephart and the bushfinger, is the kephart is pointier and bushfinger has more belly? Is that about it. Kephart better at detailed work and bushfinger a better slicer.

Pretty much. Being guardless, the BF is better at a cutting board

The handle is a different shape, the tip is not in the same spot, and there is a lot more belly on the Bushfinger.

I agree with everyone on Andy's Kephart, the Fiddleback version is my preference to any and every other Kephart I've run into. Fantastic knife! I just got a production one and can't wait to put her though the paces!

Do you know the rockwell number for these?

60-61 is the target rockwell. The ones that were tested were all 60.

Thanks Will. Man, the cool thing about the production Kephart is the weight. That knife is light.

It is really light. It is my first experience with this steel in a thickness less than 5/32, and I am extremely happy with both the weight and how it performs. It lives on my water bottle kit because that is the kit I carry most often when I am out working, and as soon as Rick gets to the kydex for it it will be traveling inverted on my pack strap on longer excursions. The look on Ethan's face when he saw it at the gathering, and how I carry it, was priceless :)

This right here. Feel like this should have been in a magazine.

Thank you. Some of these shots were leftovers from a series of photos I did for an article for one of ASG's survivor's field manuals. This knife is as of yet my favorite model for these types of tasks, and only so many photos are ever used for print media. The article was on a skill set, but some of the unused photos worked well with reviewing the knife itself.

awesome Brian

Thanks Bob :)

Mist,

Where'd you get that firesteel striker (in this pic)? that's exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for....

I got the ferro rod and Striker from Blaine (Swonut) I have a larger one I gave my daughter that works very well for her. Now I need him to make me one like this but with ivory G10 scales for the project I am working on :)
