Mid Tech Razels

Hey I have to say, I've seen your Razel many times I even have it under favorites in my browser. I always liked the design, but I maybe buy a knife once a year or every 2 college student all that jazz so while I knew I wanted it I couldnt really afford one. But I like this option, I understand, the trade off etc... Anyway great idea and if there is a possibility of a ringed Razel being produced like this let us know (or at least me, because the ringed ones are the best in my opinion).

Wasz, You will be happy to hear, that is in the planning stage now. We have been talking about it for a while, and are now moving forward with it.

Cosine, Check post #10

your Razel interests me. i have been considering a BK-3 for my Emergency Team Response pack. considering possible rescue use to break out glass (home/automotive), prying of window/doors or removing door pins for access/egress. these uses would often require hammer use on the tool. how would you think your tool hold up to this possible abuse? likely not to have to use it this way except for training purpose, but if needed in a real world situation... well you understand.
it's a beaut of a blade... thanks.

I think it would hold up better than you would expect. I have used a hammer on mine many times. I am not going to tell you that you can open a safe with it. I know that Jon has to unlock cars at work when people lock their keys in them. He slides the Razel between the door and the frame and pryes the door open enough to get a clothes hanger in to hit the door lock button. The Razel is 3/16 thick and is very stought but it is not indestructable, but will handle a lot abuse. Not knowing exactly what you you would be doing in every situation, makes it hard to answer that question. You would have to use common sence on that.

I do know, that if you drop it in a 1600RPM mud pump on a oil rig, It will not hold up good. :D It will come out in pieces. I would recomend that you did not do that.

We do make a 1/4 Razel in a Custom.

Deserthawk, check out the Graham Brothers website, and take a look at their "Entry Razel". It is a big chunk of metal, then get the brothers to make you one out of 1/4" steel . . . . . that ought to do it:cool:

I just got my Mid-tech Razel.

Oh Boy, is this thing going to get a lot of use!

The 3/16" steel gives the knife a nice weight.

The exposed tang has a flat face, parallel to the front chisel edge, perfect for giving the tool a little tap with a hammer (I know, blasphemous . . .) when using it as a chisel.

Very sharp.

I wouldn't mind hearing any advice the Graham Brothers might have on sharpening the Razel, I'm worried I'll round over the corners if I'm not careful.

Josh kept me informed at every stage of the transaction. Order, a change in the sheath prompted an updated shipping date (one day, that is fast work.), and on the shipping date I received a tracking number. First class service.

Lunumbra,

Rounding the corners will happen if you sharpen it like it has a
curved edge. Sharpen it like a wharncliffe. To keep the point nice and sharp,
do not bring the point off of the stone, stop before it gets to the point,
flip it over, and do the same. after that edge is sharp, do the front edge .
Find the angle you want, push forward, flip it over, do it again
another way is to purchase a wide DMT benchstone, wider than the blade is long, then you just get your angle, and push like you do the front edge.

I hope this helps, if you need to, call , and I can probably explain better on the phone.
