Midnight Tigershark

Somethings can never come back and is it not interesting that in an effort to improve things they can become less desirable to some if not most? SK-5 steel was used to make jackhammer bits. It is some very tough steel. Notice another well known knife maker is using it for their mid ranged knives. They were using 50100 (with their heat treatment of course). Becker used 50100 in his BKT knives but the new ones will be 1095.

Thanks for your interest. Yea, it would be nice to have the old one back. In fact I heard a rumor that someone might be posting an old SK-5 Midnight Tigershark on ebay this weekend. This is just a rumor but there could be some truth to it. If this person happens to sell it before, there goes that rumor! ;)
Anyway, thanks to everyone for your comments.

I have this knife as well. Mine is not as dark as the one shown here, due to using to much Flitz for blade polishing. I also carried mine a lot. I used mine to turn a car into a convertible back in the day.

I bought my knife from the Cutlery shoppe back in probably 1988 or 1989. It was the baddest thing they had for sale then. I have been a collector all my life and have never seen another one of these. I have given serious thought to Emailing SOG to see if they would resharpen & blue mine. Maybe even sharpen the first part of the backside of the blade. Nice to see another on of these.. Sorry I'm years late to the party.

Ok, so I hardly post over here, but if they ever gonna start making a plain edge carbon steel tiger shark, I"m down for one.

They've been going on ebay for quite a bit now, used ones without sheaths for $300 or so. I have one that's new in box, not letting go of that anytime soon!

if you look at the veiwers on the forums you will notice hardly any one veiwing sog forums here. and at the knife forum site esee and bark river have it going on sogs missing the boat big time just my opinion go back to japan or usa quality or go broke or go in with frost .same junk

....same junk

I'm afraid that I don't agree with you with regard to their entire line. Maybe you could explain why SOGs are the same as Frost Cutlery knives? To my knowledge, all of Frost Cutlery's knives are made in China. There has been a huge difference between Japanese and Chinese knife quality, but the Chinese are improving. I bought a CRKT Razel stubby (liner lock folder) which had no "made in" markings on the knife. The box said "product of China." I was not impressed and probably will hesitate to buy any more CRKT knives. But this knife is not bad so far.

I just got a tigershark from blocket.se(swedens eBay) for 59$ it was after i got it home that i saw that it was a original SK-5 midnite whit custom kydex sheath it has really been used the blue/black Finnish is almost all gone but it has no nic or any damage to the edge at all and it has the same sharpening as original(same as the fallkniven rolled edge) and it is sharp! I am going to use this knife every chance that i get and i am NEVER!!! going to sale it.

NPH, I would say he did, but I bought a NEW IN THE BOX TIGERSHARK SK5(satin blade) leather sheath NEW NEW NEW-BOX WAS MINT.. The guy wanted 100$.. I gave him 175 and told him i bet you could sell it for more on feebay. He did not want to bother.. Anyways I have had offers of 750..

Cheers,

Carl

Hey Carl, Yeah I doubt i will find another.. The guys who i got it from deals ONLYin hiend guns.. Each gun he had was worth about 1 to many thousands of dollars so I am sure he had plenty of money.. I tried to tell him so i gave him extra and he thought i was crazy.. Oh well..

WOW !!! Always good to hear a success story like that.

Cheers,

Carl

Nice Snag!! You done good giving him extra. :) I have an old Carbon Steel Tigershark that I got for $150 years ago. Almost new, no box, factory sheath. Great camp knife and IMO it looks better with the patina from use.
