midsized 560s? (ZT, please make them!!!)

smaller doesn't mean weaker or puny. That is like saying a SNG is not a hardcore knife because it isn't as big as an AR.

Hell, I have a PT as well, and that is a well built folder. There is a disconnect that a large knife = tough, and a small knife = puny. This is absolutely not the case. If ZT was smart the would produce this knife. It is easy to make something overly "everything" yet very very hard to make something with the same function that is a little more minimalist.

Again, it's the whole "tactical" yada yada yada thing. My Escrima teacher has taught for 40 years, and is Filipino, I'm sure if he was armed with a plastic chopstick, he would absolutely destroy any "warriors" with a "big tactical knife". Not to demean or harsh on anyone, but you are missing the forest through the trees.

What exactly is a "hardcore knife" anyway? Smaller may not mean weak or puny, but it does mean "Not what Rick Hinderer and ZT designed."

Sounds like with all the Striders you've got, your bases are covered. Are you unhappy with that? Also, no, there is no disconnect. Large tough knife = tough. Small knife = not what was designed. That's the only real distinction I've made, and the only serious one I've seen set forth, especially on the official side.

And did you really just say "If ZT was smart the would produce this knife"? That's a real cry of sour-grapes. It seems to me that given the success of their entire line, and the yet-released limited production pieces, that they're plenty smart, and aren't losing a massive amount of sales because you're upset that your 0560 is too big to comfortably carry in your work clothes. I'm pretty sure your work attire isn't what they had in mind when they designed the knife, unless your work attire is that of military or law enforcement, as they (ZT) themselves have stated being the focus of their products, despite their current path of branching out. Even with that notion, the fact still stands that the designs stand on their own as having an intended presence, and work dress isn't likely it. It's rude and irresponsible to say things like "If ZT was smart the would produce this knife."

Didn't you open this post talking about "hardcore knives"? So... it's the whole "hardcore" yada yada yada. It's the same thing, and a bit disingenuous to sneer at the "tactical" label when it's blatantly obvious that when ZT says "tactical" they are pinning it to their large range of models marketed to LE and military.

It sounds like you'd be happy with a 3" XM-18. At which point, someone else would provide a loving home for your 0560. I know I would. I've bought 2 of them so far, and gave one as a gift to my paintball buddy who's going into the Air Force. Me? I'm just a studio hand and freelance drummer, but the 0550 was big and tough enough to get me out of an elevator, so I'm not too interested in something small, especially after Sandy took the power out of the lower half of Manhattan...too many elevators there for anything other than a ZT (and a newly acquired prybar). /digression. Time to buy another ZT, I've got that itch again...

I held a 550 at a gunshow I went too earlier today. Too big. I would go for a 3" or 3.25" version. Don't care if it's zt or kershaw branded. As long as it was Ti, g10 and came with a good steel.

Was looking at XMs today online but I still feel the 0550 is perfect. Mine is super smooth and to me the perfect size knife.

Black, thanks for that great picture and your opinions of the 550, also for sharing your recent browsing activities.

A 3 1/4" (Blur size) 0560 would be AWESOME! Since the XM covers 3" and 3 1/2" and the 0560 is 3 3/4" the 3 1/4" is the most logical size for the next knife and would be great for those of us who thought the 0560 was too large and can't afford an XM.

I agree 120%, please build one Kershaw.

I would not buy a smaller 560. I would buy the 550 if I wanted smaller. Which is what I do, when I want smaller, carry my 550.
However, I've never had a problem carrying my 560 if I want to. Unless your work attire is Speedos, anyone should be able to hide a 560, if you really want to. If you're just wanting one that you can use indiscriminately anytime you want, and that is why you want smaller, then I can understand more. Although, I'd just carry a second, lighter-duty Kershaw knife for the regular tasks, and keep the 560 hidden for emergencies. That is pretty much what I'm doing right now, and do on a daily basis.

Anyway, just throwing my buying opinion out there: I wouldn't buy a smaller 560.

I'd be happy if they came out with a model in between the Cryo and ZT 0560. Maybe a Hybrid? One side with G10, one with a stainless frame lock and stabilizer. Thin. Flipper, assisted opening, KVT or washers, 3-3.25 inch 14C28N and made in the US with a Kershaw badge. One can dream...

Thats a really good dream right there! I dream that as well.

To your points - being Sour Grapes (????) about saying ZT should make this - I own my own business and am in the business of selling. You want to open avenues to get more sales - then you can reinvest to create better products, better designs, better factories, hire (more) great people, etc. If Apple said, "screw it, we make nice iMacs, selling a phone or tablet would be crazy!", where would they be? At about 20.00 a share is where.

Tactical - it is a selling point, like selling 4x4s to people in the city that will never sniff dirt. You can still sell the military gear without "tactical". It is a buzz word (marketing 101).

Striders - Striders are great knives, but I want other knives. You don't just have one type of knife do you? I want a flipper, made by ZT, that is rock solid, and has great QC, as I've come to expect from ZT. It's just my opinion.

Small - Hardcore - Yes small can be hardcore. Have you ever owned a smaller sized Busse? Definitely a hardcore blade, no matter the size. I'll take a smaller size Busse over a larger sized Cold Steel any day if I was in a bind.

Just my .02.

I love the 550, and agree it is a great knife, but I just really really want that size in a flipper (or smaller)

That would be sweet.
