Midtechs and how I've moved on

I have been up there and come back down to where I started with Spyderco and cold steel etc. except for exclusivity artistic value I found hand made folders actually inferior in performance to production knives. Virtually no one takes a $500 plus dollar folder and beats on it. So in reality these knives do not see the hard real world use that makes issues visible so they can then be corrected.

I've gone up to $425, though I sold that knife. I haven't bought a knife in over 6 months. $300 is my most expensive. I currently only have eyes for knives $200 and up, but am so strapped for cash that I don't hardly bother looking anymore. I'm happy with what I have so far.

I've kind of gone in the opposite direction of the OP. When I first got into knives, I went all in. I went through a bunch of Midtechs, and some customs as well. I've sold them all off now (with the exception of my Busses), and have a small collection of mid to high end production knives, for a few reasons: One, I couldn't bring myself to really use the midtechs and customs. Two, the quality and materials of many production knives rivals that of midtechs. The use of super steels, steel lockbar inserts, and premium materials is closing the gap, and brands like Zero Tolerance have unbeatable warranties to boot. That said, I have no doubt I will eventually get on another Midtech kick, and I am on a waitlist for a custom folder currently :) I just love knives.

Finally done with the Collection liquidation! Only knives I have left are the Tilt, 0600, Military and Jungle Commander. Going to sell the Jungle Commander and then my Pelican Case. Got a couple of my old GECs that I sold a long time ago coming back, and a Pohan Leu Hamachi will be ready any day now, my first custom. Feels good.

My collection/addiction has taken me on a roller coaster ride the last couple years. This forum has played a big part obviously. I started out with lower end productions seen in walmart and gun shops, moved on to the likes of cold steel ect. After I found BF, I got heavy into spyderco, kershaw, ZT and BM. Always buying, selling and trading for the latest one.

I than moved on to CRK, hinderer, strider ect. I really enjoyed those, but I still had it fairly under control. After I moved on to customs is when I got a little out of hand. I fell in love with the likes of Rj Martin, Ray Loconico, ect. In a matter of a year, I had liquidated a lot of my stocks and over half of my cash savings, totaling well over $20,000. Every time I made a large purchase, I'd tell my wife not to worry, since I can always sell them and have the cash back immediately.

The only real problem with that, is when some large bill would come due, I would sell one, pay off the bill, and repeat the cycle. It ends up eating away at your collection, and than you end up not having nearly the money in savings that you used to have. About six months ago, I realized I had to slow way down, so I did liquidate a lot of my higher ends and put that money back into other investments. Currently, I only have 5 custom folders, each around the 700-1000 range. I like where I'm at, although I just purchased a Turpin Logic flipper that might threaten to send me spiraling again.
